Title: Springfield Armory 1911 Lightweight Champion Operator .45 ACP
Post by: ML_Hunter on August 20, 2010, 09:19:36 PM
Thinking about another Carry 1911.  The two I'm closely looking at are the Kimber Ultra CDP and The Springfield Champion Operator.  I'm really leaning towards the Springfield.  I know a lot of folks who have Kimbers and I've head ALOT of good things about Kimber...and some not so good, but I hardly know anyone with this model Springfield.  Anyone hear anything good or bad about it??  I really like the fact that the Springfield has the tact-rail and to be honest I prefer the appearance of the Springfield as well, it looks more traditional than the Kimber.

The Springfield is about $200 cheaper.  But they are both reliable pieces.  I think I'll go with the Springfield.

Elk-aholic, if you woud please give me...not loan, but give me the money for one, i'd be more than happy to purchae a Wilson Combat.  However, I do not have the $1800+ to purchase one. Thanks for your input, and if you would like to give me the money for the Wilson, let me know and we'll set up a meet.  :chuckle:

Fire4effect bought one of the springfield's not too long ago and he loves it. It's not a bad looking gun. I still give him crap though cuz it doesnt have soul like my Colt Government Commander.

A buddy of mine bought a kimber and a springfield not to long ago and we did a side by side of the two and I could not see much difference in shooting.  I say get the springfield and buy $200 Worth of extra ammo.

I avoid alloy-framed 1911's.
hollow-points and mag followers can eat through the coating below the feed ramp.
Also, you're very limited to the amount of fluff and buff, by the alloy frame.
Steel is real.

That ought to generate some steam!

Thanks for the input!!  Really helps me out !  However  :chuckle:$200 dosent buy too much for .45ACP ammo  :bash:

I love my Kimber. I dont have any experience with the Springfield 1911's.

You hear about Kimber pistols having issues (on internet forums) a lot because they are selling more 1911s than their competition so there are bound to be more "flaws", although percentage wise they may all be very equal. Most problems can be chalked up to a mag or ammo issue and if it is still occurring after the 500 round break in then you can contact the shop and send it to them. (I know, paying big money $$$$ for a pistol should result in a flawless pistol, but mistakes happen).

Both guns seem like good choices, just dont let all the negative vibe about Kimbers steer you away

I do love my Kimber Stainless II,  but I also have another 'steel' pistol. (Colt Officer's)  I swear it'll feed rocks!

Boots,
I really do like the Kimber, and If I did go with the Kimber I would pick the CDP II 3 inch model for ease of concealment.  But I put this all on the back-burner for now as I just ripped the *censored* out of my waterproof hunting pants and its about time for a new Jacket as well, so I'm going to invest in some new rain gear for hunting season and then place an order for my 1911 next year after the hunting and holiday season are done with the year.

Nuttin wrong with that.  If I bought a gun every time I had the urge, then I wouldn't have a whole lot of other things I need.

Rain gear is a must, nobody likes to get soaked when hunting
