As many of you probably know, and I only do thanks to Passion on here. Cabelas screwed up and did not get their TAGS apllication in bythe deadline to Arizona for elk. Thats over 600 apps that will not be part of their odds for their draws. What a year to have a draw in. Cabelas has petitioned Arizona to have a hearing to allow the applications. Group action lawsuits are already forming against it. A deadline is a deadline. Too bad for those that put their money into Cabelas, but thats their problem. I f I were them, I would be contacting my attorneys against Cabelas. Could you imagine losing your loyalty point and top max oint status becasue someone screwed up. YIKES

A deadline is a deadline
That never stopped WA F&G. We shall see in the morning.

Yup if I was in the max pool id freak out on cabelas no doubt about it.
:chuckle: It will be interesting how this affects the NR odds in the draws....Id assume most of the cabelas apps have some points so its really going to help the rest of us if they are left out. Chances are good that most off those apps are for premium hunts too.
My guess is that the second tier hunts are going to have way better odds as many of those apps will be filled on harder to draw non res stuff.
Its still going to be a long shot for any good units though :dunno:

That sucks for those guys, cabelas is going to lose some business after this is settled I am sure. I saw over on bowsite that some guy is suing to keep those 600 applications from be admitted and was getting others to sign up that have been told a deadline is a deadline. He was paying all the attorney fees himself.

I sent him or a guy doing the same my number and statement.

What is a loyalty point? I was living in AZ a couple years ago and I applied for Elk a few years in a row. I did not apply this year. Do I lose my points or do they hold over until next year?

You get a loyalty point when you have applied for 5 years in a row. You did not lose your points. If I remember right Arizona changed it this year, where you only have to apply once every 5 years to keep your points. It use to be every other year, I think.

I heard that the arizona commission voted 5-0 to not allow the applications to be submitted late.

Guess someone is looking for a new job

Yup. 568 hunters. Figure almost all are NRs, so that's got to really help out the odds. I've got my fingers crossed. Just hope this doesn't delay the draw if Cabela's tries to appeal/sue since the results are supposed to be out in the next week or two. Would be nice to know if I drew before the next round of state deadlines.
Here's the release from the AZGFD website:
Commission denies request to extend 2008 antelope, elk application deadline
News Media
Mar 14, 2008
The Arizona Game and Fish Commission today unanimously voted to deny a request by a national outdoor equipment retail company that would have extended the 2008 pronghorn antelope and elk draw deadline.
Cabela’s petition to the commission was a result of the Arizona Game and Fish Department receiving elk and antelope applications after the established deadline that were submitted by the company’s tag application service on behalf of 568 hunters.
According to the petition, Cabela’s sent to the department three packages through a private courier from Nebraska on Feb. 11, 2008. The packages didn’t arrive at the department location until after the posted deadline time of 7 p.m. on Feb. 12, 2008.
The commission agreed to the hearing in accordance with Commission Rule R12-4-611 that allows for petitions to be heard by the commission when no other administrative remedy exists.

I was reading on another site that cabelas was not even considering tying this up in litigation, but you never know. Those people that used Cabelas T.A.G.S are probably pretty pissed off right now.
-
Well that just increased my odds. I guess this goes to show you if you want something done right do it your self.
-
I'm glad Arizona stuck to their guns. Wouldn't that be soemthing to draw unit 9 this year because someone goofed.

i was once drawn for a hunt, i kept track of the drawings on there website. i saw my name and i was like yes, im in. well about a week later i got a letter in the mail. the letter said hey, we made a mistake and drew 300 people for the 150 slots. so, realising this we drew 150 people out of the 300 people origionaly drawn, and your not one of them, here is your money back. talk about a letdown. it wasint an elk hunt in a limited zone or anything like that. it was a whitetail hunt in ohio,on a bit of property that is closed to everybodyy that isint drawn. i was pretty not hapy about it, the letter i wrote em said so. o well, maybe next year.
