Title: Grouse and Parasites
Post by: 1bugman on August 24, 2010, 07:40:39 AM: While hunting deer in the Huckleberry unit last year, we nail a few nice Ruff grouse. While clean the last one I noticed some small yellow spots in the breast meat. After inspecting the others we had taken, they all had these spots. The spots kind of looked like little yellow fat pockets, but when you cut into them, they looked like little yellow worms. Sorry I don't have any pictures of them, and haven't been able to find any thing online that fits this. Just wondering what kind of parasites they could be. And how sfe they would be to eat?

C-Money, right- you don't need a small game license for grouse.

Post by: 87Ford on August 24, 2010, 09:44:13 AM: What you describe sounds like what's called "ricebreast" in infected ducks. It's a parasite called Sarcocystosis. I've run into it in ducks before. I've never heard of or seen it in Grouse though.

save it for when the inlaws come to town... they DEFINATLEY wont know the difference.... thats how i got rid of all my old freezer burnt humpies.... same concept... should work

I`ve seen worms in duck breasts, but never grouse. I don`t eat them if they have worms.
