While hunting deer in the Huckleberry unit last year, we nail a few nice Ruff grouse. While clean the last one I noticed some small yellow spots in the breast meat. After inspecting the others we had taken, they all had these spots. The spots kind of looked like little yellow fat pockets, but when you cut into them, they looked like little yellow worms. Sorry I don't have any pictures of them, and haven't been able to find any thing online that fits this. Just wondering what kind of parasites they could be. And how sfe they would be to eat?
-
It gets thrown away if it looks wormy to me. I know other folks just cook'em and eat them, but not me. Off topic, you can still hunt grouse with a big game licence, right??
-
I wouldn't eat them either if they had worms. If fully cooked, I'm pretty sure it wouldn't hurt you, but just the thought of it...
C-Money, right- you don't need a small game license for grouse.
-
Never seen that in grouse before, but I've seen little white worms in duck breast several years ago....... :puke: Still gives me the willies thinking about it.
-
What you describe sounds like what's called "ricebreast" in infected ducks. It's a parasite called Sarcocystosis. I've run into it in ducks before. I've never heard of or seen it in Grouse though.

I found a long worm in the guts of a grouse once. It was about 3 inches long and very thin. kind of coiled like a spring. I didn't eat the bird................................... :puke:

I`ve seen worms in duck breasts, but never grouse. I don`t eat them if they have worms.
