Hey, I need to download maps to my Garmin Rino 120. I have Idaho Topos on it that I have used for years, but now that I moved to WA. I need to update. Someone told me you can download a program for free to do this. I have tried to find one, but no luck. Anybody know anything about this? Thanks.

You need the Garmin "Mapsource" program. It should have come with your GPS unit. Then you purchase whatever maps you want, and load them onto Mapsource on your computer. And from there, you can hook the GPS unit to your computer and transfer them from the computer to the GPS.

Thanks. The problem is that my GPS didn't come with mapsource. I bought it years ago maybe it wasn't standard then? I just had a buddy where I used to live load it on the first time. might just have to break down and buy mapsource. :(

Just download it from Garmin. You can choose Mapsource or Waypoint Manager, something like that.
-
Download Garmin Training Center software from here: http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=835 (http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=835)
Then download Mapsource from here: http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=209 (http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=209)
Both are free. You need some version of Mapsource first, which is why you need to download Training Center.

Thanks guys! I think this will work. Happy Hunting. :IBCOOL:

Did you get it to work? I have an older 130 Rino, and after talking to Garmin, they said the older ones don't "download".....WTF???
-
Well, the first thing you might want to do is contact Garmin customer service, either by phone or email. They have been very helpful to me on a couple of ocassions. Try going to their website. All the information on how to contact them is there.

I am still working with it, but I called my buddy and he has a 2007 mapsource cd he is going to send me. :) I know it should work, because he loaded my maps on earlier. Little toes, my 120 is older so yours should work too as long as you have a USB cord. Thanks again for the info everyone. I will let you know how it works when the cd gets here.
-
I hope so Buglebrush, I've got the cables, but can't seem to get it to work. I did call Garmin though, thats where I got the info from. Maybe I needed to talk to some kind of manager?
-
ya, that is wierd. I will let you know. I am going scouting all weekend and the program should be here when I get back. :IBCOOL:

bumping an old one, trying to load maps into my 120 and 130 rinos, but not having any luck. Did you get it to work?
-
Are you using the mapsource cd? You might have to change the settings on your unit before it will recognize it. Might try a different usb port on your computer as well. I've had trouble getting my comp to find them in the past and just changed the port I was using.

none of mine came with any CD's. I downloaded basecamp from garmins site, but still cant get anything to load.

Anyone know if the HuntingWA GPS maps are compatible with the rino 120 or is it 24k color gps's only?
-
I don't think the huntingwa GPS maps work with the 120/130. You can look on there website and it lists the compatible units.

The 120 will accept downloaded maps but has very little memory: 8 MB. All of WA with the Hunt GPS map is about 600 MB.

As an up-date, I have all of Eastern WA on mine now.
