I heard the 1st flocks of snow geese for the year last night about 10:30pm. They must have followed the back side of the last front south.
Any birds on Fir Island yet?
-
no way, are you sure?
I can hear them in my head already. my ears are ringing with the sound of snows.

as i was organizing hunting gear in the garage and decoy accessories, i was playing with my snow goose call a bit. maybe you heard me.

Skillet & I know what we heard; there’s no mistaking the cries of migrating snow geese.
There were snows flying over the West Everett, Mukilteo area last night, Aug 26. I’ve never heard them this early either but they were there.

according the wikipedia, the record low (F) temp on Wrangell Island in Aug is 20F.

according to

it is already snowing in some areas of russia, and in the 30's on the islands surrounding Wrangell.. maybe a cold snap could have sent a few off already?

You sure it wasn't specs? They are starting to move.
-
They are specs. I have been watching them. No snow geese in sight. The snows should start arriving end of Sept. to 1st week of Oct.
There have been some large flocks hanging around in the fresh cut fields. Most of the specs will be out of the area by mid to late Oct. heading down to Klamath Falls and California area. Drive around and you will see that they aren't snows. But still gets you excited.
I did check Fir Island and the Standwood area today as I was see what field the honkers were in for early goose. Several fields of specs.
-
that makes more sense, but even specs would be great to watch right now.
-
Unfortunately I don't believe you can shoot them the early goose season. I wish though.
-
OK, I’ll go with specs. My bad.
I haven’t seen any since I moved from Texas back in the day. I think I’ll run up this weekend and check them out before they all fly south.

I too have seen flocks of geese over Skagit valley. I go to La Conner boating and starting to see more and more every week :IBCOOL:
-
have not seen nothing yet :dunno:, but it is getting closer :tung:
-
I work on the northslope all the snow geese were i work are gone there are a allot of specks and honkers and a few swans.
-
yeah that's a bummer that spec's aren't allowed on the early season. Is there any actual mention of them in the regs? I just know that early season is pretty explicit as "Canada Goose".
-
Heard some honking, as I woke up yesterday morning. Looked over, and the Chessie was staring out the window with the most business-like look as you'd ever see.
-
Theres been a noticible increase of the amount of geese crappy on the lawn in front of the house the last week or so.
-
my buddy was scouting one of his spots yesterday and along with the 50 mallards and 3 doz. canadians that have been sitting in it for the past week :IBCOOL: :IBCOOL: :IBCOOL:, he saw about 1 doz. snows sitting in with the canadians! there are some snows down already, not very many, but some.

Maybe they weren’t specs that I heard then. You guys got me questioning my hearing/memory/sanity.

we still question your sanity, but that's not relevant to the snows :chuckle:
