I am planning on getting a couple more trail cameras. What cameras do you guys like the best for say under $400.00?
-
so far the only one I have is the primos truth 46, and I have no complaints about it as of yet, batt life is great, pic quality is great, I paid $129 + tax at cabelas two months ago and now they are on sale for $119

I like the double pack of wildview from Cabellas for $100.. Something tells me you'll need a little better clarity than i need for the black tails I've been seeing... ;) I've been kinda low buck guy just need to tell what kind of animal... not the diff between 2 kinds of dawgs...

has anyone used stealth cams?
-
I was just looking at the new Bushnell 8.0 at Cabela's today. I liked the 5.0 and imagine this one is better. Was under $300 too.

Have you used the Bushnell's before Tony?
-
I've used the 5.0 a little, but with that little amount it was enough to impress. Good picture quality. Don't know what improvements Bushnell made with the 8.0, other than the 3mp difference, but would think they'd make it better in other areas too. Oh, did notice the battery life is up to full year now.

I went to the Bushnell Trophy cams. I can't begin to say how much better I like them than the Moultrie cams. Battery life alone makes them cheaper than a cheap cam. You will spend it on batteries or the cam. You can find the 8mp for around $180.00 with shipping if you look around. I made some really cool security boxes for them that I also sell for $40.00 and you don't need an expensive python lock to cable them to the trees and they are easy to aim the cam with. :IBCOOL:

the molutrie "spelling" i used last year was great. it was my uncles will have it up again this year i hope :IBCOOL:

You should be able to get 5 or 6 moultrie D-40s for $400 great batt life easy to use and good pics in my book
-
those are pretty nice pics.... for 75 a cam there abouts... nice pic of the deer and the moon
-
I put an inexpensive moultrie (under $100) out in a "bear" area because i didn't wan't my more expensive bushnell with the IR flash getting ate up...the moultrie has performed great and the flash doesn't seem to bother the bears at all. They've "inspected" the camera and swatted it around but haven't ate it yet. I would buy several inexpensive models to cover more area than just buy a couple "advanced" models to just see one or two spots. Just my :twocents:

Get a few moultrie D40's, decent pics, batt life and it wont piss you off as much if some jack ass steals on :twocents:

:yeah: I would...... get 4 or 6 to spread it out all around. Hope you get good Pics..... I remember few years ago We use those stuff GREAT STUFF!!! Battery hold good BELOW 0 Winter for almost 3 months no problem still working! Make sure you build a Roof to keep snow off the TrailCamera and Elevation good Target from 45 degree! Not Flat laszer . because Snow raise different every day. Lots Practices by mistakes and your time. but WAY FUN!
Walking thur Snow making other people suspecious and more curiously..... Try to be Smarter! :twocents: Also maybe leave it for while till Snow surface became ICY and be able to walk on top of snow to exchange Card.

I had a d50 that got stolen last year. just bought another one yesterday.Cabelas has them for 69.99

The bushnell trophy cams are the best that I have used. I have two of the 8.0s and love em. also have a D40 and am not as impressed with it.
-
The battery life alone makes the Trophy Cam a cheaper cam then the D-40. IMO I don't think the D-40 has good battery life when compared with newer cams like the Trophy cam. I would rather buy 8 AA batteries every 4 months than 6 D cells every month or more. I can't tell you how long my Cam will run on 8 AA batteries yet because after 3 months they are doing great and I have taken more pics with several videos than I took with 3 D-40 cams and a pile of D cell batteries in 6 months. I can get 16 AA batteries for 5 bucks. That is enough to run my cam for 1 year!! A littel more money now but alot less in the long run.
Also IR cams are more secure than flash cams becasue they don't give them self away. and with a good box the bears and thieves won't be able to get them.
Just my thoughts.

I think it really depends on what you plan to do and where.
What are you trying to get out of it?
Great photos - go expensive.
Just want to see what is around - go cheap.
Obviously theft or damage can happen anywhere, but it is more prevelant on public land.
Public land - go cheap.
Private land - spend more.
I have 2 Moultrie 100's that were $100 each when I bought them, 3 Wildview EZ Cams that were $40 each on sale and 2 Bushnells that were $200 & $180 each.
The two 6 volt rechargeables for the M100's were $25 each plus $30 for the charger.
4 sets of C rechargables at $20 per set for the Wildview cameras plus $25 for the charger.
$10 for a 12 volt cable, $30 for a 12 volt battery and $30 for the charger for the Wildviews.
About $20 for 8 AA batteries for the Bushnells. One cam has 8 AA's and the other has 4 AA's.
Also an average of $15 each for 10 2gig SD cards.
You may also have to figure in box/cable/lock.
I am currently using the Wildviews a lot and I like them for the price. I will pick up at least two more when I get a chance. The Bushnells seem to do really well on batteries and the pictures are 8megapixels. I don't think I will ever buy another Moultrie. I have never had good luck with the new ones.
-
I used to use the stealth cams, but recently they've been putting junk on the market imo. . .
I picked up an 8.0 bushnell at the beginning of the summer and absolutely love it. It took over 3000 pictures in a 2 month soak here in Idaho while I worked back home and still had batteries. I replaced them just in case but it was very impressive.

Thanks guys, I think I am leaning towards Bushnell. the best price I have found so far, http://www.trailhunting.com/products/Bushnell_Trophy_Cam_8MP_Trail_Camera_11_9435-283-18.html (http://www.trailhunting.com/products/Bushnell_Trophy_Cam_8MP_Trail_Camera_11_9435-283-18.html)

My cousins moultrie I65 cameras take good pics, but they are rather large. I'm thinking of getting the bushnell trophy as well. Keep us informed on how you like em.
Thanks for the link.
