Anyone got any reports from the morning stalk yet? I'm antsy to hear stories.

Yes, really good morning. Saw deer in a swell location Tuesday night, so I sat up on a brushpile there by 5 this morning. Mist was heavy turning to rain for about 20 minutes then back to a mist. Heard a twig snap about 50 yards off behind me. I had a doe with three fawns there. The doe couldn't figure out what wasn't right about the brushpile and she hung around it for about a half hour, came within ten yards with two of her fawns, the other was browsing to my left about 20 yards. Two other deer were in there, yearlings. One a buck with antlers as long as his ears. Off to my left about 100 yards three elk, a 2x2, cow, and calf were reclined at the base of the cleared slope. Two more elk were up at the top of the hill.

just got back in. good morning very wet, but the deer where out. think i saw 16 does and 2 bucks. one a very nice benchy i could have shot at 43 yards but he was nice not great. put a hell of a stock on him and he was screwed when i got up on him :chuckle: he caught me letting my bow back down and about crawled out of his skin :chuckle: but it would take a monster/toad for me to burn my tag. still fun. i found out my boots arn't as waterproof as they use to be :chuckle:

Took my 5 year old out for a short walk this morning, brought the bow incase a buck were to make an appearance but was mostly scouting for elk. Stumbled across 2 cows and a calf and 1 doe. Shot a couple stumps, threw a couple rocks, we had fun!
Going solo tomorrow.

Went out with Tristan this morning (The 15 year old I am teaching to hunt) and had this guy come under the stand. He was able to get a shot off at 25, but deflected on the only tiny branch between him and us. However he is in high spirits.

Damn-thats hunting, he has an encounter to remember for a lifetime. Good luck to you-all and good for you getting a new hunter out there

We use to sneak in a few hours before school almost every day. If you got one then you were sick that day. Or if you spotted one a long ways away. :chuckle:

we had late starts every Wednesday my senior year. We would meet up early for breakfast then go hunting, fishing or go ride the horses up in the hills before school started. If it was looking like a good day we'd just skip and have fun all day.

I went out last night had these guys at 33 yards. The first 2 pics were about 25 yards from each other (left to right) They would look and went back to grazing. Much too early in the season for bucks like this. Who wants to be done hunting anyway?

I was hoping I didn't run into this guy again. I'd prefer to wait but not sure I could. I like his little kicker and a small double brow.

I love that quote, I'll use that motto this year. Just worried I won't have the time like last year to get a decent buck.
