Title: 10 year old daughter passed Hunter's Ed. Need some help.
Post by: scudmaster on September 07, 2010, 10:53:22 PM: My 10 year old worked her but off and passed hunter's ed this summer. (Her request to take the class).

I am looking to take her for her first deer hunt. We live in North Bend and are only going to be able to put in two scouting trips prior to the hunt. I would like a walking hunt with a high likelihood of seeing deer and a decent chance at filling her tag.

I was considering going to the 381 for the "any deer" for WT. Anyone have any info whether this area would be worth the effort? Often the Any Deer areas are because there are no deer, or poor habitat, so the state is not trying to build a population. Can anyone compare 381 with the Colfax area (plan b right now). Any other areas I might scout first or other suggestions? General areas are all I am looking for...no honey holes.

I am not really interested in finding deer in a field and just harvesting it, if you know what I mean.

Any info would be helpful.

I am not sure but I believe it is any deer for youth with a good chance at tagging a deer. If you don't want to field hunt you need to set up in the woods w/a rest of some sort. White tails don't hang around long for a little one to shoot. There's nothing wrong to set your kid up on a field for there first deer. I would use a ground blind w/shooting sticks. We sit in the blind and spit sunflower seeds. Trust me, girls loose intrest when they get board. And above all, don't push them in going out hunting if they don't want to go that day. Sometimes it's good to stay home and play for a little girl.

I'm sure some of the seasoned guys on here can find it for you, Jackelope can you help on this? It might have got moved from deer hunting to another spot :dunno: good luck to you :hello:

PA Ben I guess I was not clear, a field hunt in a ground blind would be great. What I am not as interested in as a road hunt, spot them in a field then ask for permission and shoot.

A good field with a chance at a doe would be great. Those pics are good encouragement. I will share them with my daughter tomorrow.

Good amount of deer, both mulies and white tails, not that hard of a hunt physically, i first went there with my dad when i was about 12 or so and I loved it. Been going there every year for the last 8 years.

Hum, Not for modern. They are "any buck" or "2 point min". Thanks for thinking of it though.

Congrats, I really enjoy hunting with my girls although the oldest one just doesn't dig hunting like she used too. My youngest still wants to come along her first was a doe at age 11 and last year she shot her first buck at 12. WooHoo!!!!

I cant imagine the emmosions I will go thru when she shoots her first deer, but for now we are focussing on birds and maybe next year she will deer hunt. She will have allot of waterfowl under her belt before then. Sweet pics of the kids I dig em! :) happy little hunters.

Post by: RoyBoy on September 13, 2010, 01:21:20 AM: ages 15 and under can shoot a doe in 111 up by colville would be a great place to take her! the scenery is beautiful there are plenty of deer bucks and does. you could take her some where off the alladin road and get her in the woods looking for a nice mature doe or even come across a buck. the white tail over there are plentiful and big bodied. the bucks are smart though. you have to know the land and put time in for a good chance at a buck. my family knows ppl with property over there and we usually go for the late hunt if we dont get a blacky over here. it would be a trip she would remember forever. theres my :twocents:
