Title: I got charged by a sow with 2 cubs.
Post by: bowman on September 12, 2010, 06:47:37 PM: Anyone ever been charged by a bear? I was yesterday! I heard something down in the brush so I went down thinking it was a deer and nope...wrong! There it was. A bear less then 50 yrds away. Bad thing was a sow with cubs and then it bluff charged me and stopped under 40 yards while I was backing up. The bear turned and went into the brush and I hauled ass back up the mountain where my dad was laughing at me. I told him it wasn't funny and he said it was now because I was still alive.

I was deer hunting, and no luck. Shot 2 Blue grouse with my bow though.

Did you learn anything from the altercation......(like pack a clean fresh pair back at the truck at all times)

When ever I see a bear they always run but it was probably because she had the cubs she bluff charged

Sure did a fresh pair is always a good thing :chuckle: :chuckle:. I'll enter it into the POM contest.

Somehow my son and I got between the sow and cub which ran up a tree about 40 yards behind us. Handed the bow to my son, grabbed the pistol and started talking to her. she stopped at about 35 and broke up the hill to her other 2 cubs and we backed down and clear of the third. Exciting though.

The cub climbed a tree and starting calling for his mom and we could hear the bear come charging through the brush. We backed out real fast and were OK, but sure got the blood pumping. Glad your OK, get your deer soon!
