Title: Carlson Chokes
Post by: CP on September 13, 2010, 10:25:12 AM

Anyone have an opinion on Carlson’s extended steel shoot tubes?

I have used a couple in the past... Only one I have from Carlson now is a turkey choke.  What are you thinking of getting?

I was looking at a 3 choke set:

Extended 12 gauge Steel Shot Choke Tubes

Close Range         .720
Mid Range           .710
Extended Range   .700

I just picked up the close and mid range ones for my O/U.  Haven't shot them enough yet to give a full report but they seem like a quality product.  Not super fancy looking but the price is pretty good.  I'm looking forward to trying them out more!

I use a carlson extended modified. I think off hand it's the .720. I felt that it patterned very well off 3" BB shells. but it may have been luck at the time. I will probably give it a try in early season with some hevi #4 shot and see how it goes.

I have the improved modified (not the extended version).  It patterns well out of my gun, and I definitely  knock down more birds when using it.

We should start a "Pattern Board" thread.  With the new wads in the new Remington and Federal loads, Chokes don't effect your pattern as much as with the Kent and Winchester type wads.

I would love to see some standard distances/chokes/loads put on paper.

I'll see if I can make it out this weekend and put a few pics up Monday

I have 2 for My Ruger and love them.Very tight pattern and real hard hitting..

I run Full in the top and Extra full in the bottom..Outstanding..
I shoot everything up to BB out of poth of them no problems..Although these are a little tight for the bigger steel shot. But still knock the crap out of what You point it at.

I have a full set of 5 for my Beretta Onyx.  Along with a few other shotguns.  They have worked.  I have not patterned all of them.  The one in my Benelli SBEII patterned good.
