Washington wildlife officials are scouting for what could be the state's third breeding wolf pack.
The Spokesman-Review says an agency wolf specialist recently trapped and radio-collared a 50-pound young wolf in Pend Oreille County near the Canada border. Now officials are going to follow the animal to see if it came from a den in British Columbia or Washington.
A breeding pack was confirmed farther south in Pend Oreille County last year.
The number of confirmed breeding packs in the state eventually could change the wolf's endangered species status. A state wolf management plan is expected to be released this winter.
Washington's first documented wolf pack since the 1920s was found in 2008 in western Okanogan County.
Another wolf pack is suspected to be roaming the Wenaha-Tucannon Wilderness Area along the Washington-Oregon border.

Why would we not want them in our state? I think it is great they are making a comeback. Ranchers get paid pretty well by the government when a kill is attributed to them.
I think it is better for people to do their own research but here are some things to consider:
Native wolves have been making a "comeback" for decades. These new wolves are not native but were introduced from Northern Canada.
The ranchers can get paid for deprivation by wolves but there have been many stories where they were denied claims because evidence that wolves killed the animals was deemed inconclusive by biologists. Convenient huh?
A few packs of wolves in WA would be acceptable for most people but who gets to decide how many is a few, who counts them and how, and how will they be managed after target goals have been reached? All target goals have been reached in ID, MT and WY and yet the pro-wolf cult continues to impede management and sued to have them relisted. This is the stickiest part of the whole wolf problem. The anti-hunting/environmental/animal rights people have vast amounts of money to manipulate the system in their favor. There is also a LOT of money for the state if wolves are not delisted and no real incentive for them to be honest about how many wolves are really here.
Wolves kill far more animals than they eat and it is not just the weak and sick like they lead people to believe. One pack of 10 wolves could potentially kill 1000's of elk, deer, moose and/or other predators. Even if they do not kill them they still displace them and harass them relentlessly.

A little research might open your eyes a little........or a lot. Look at what's happening in Idaho and Montana to the deer and elk as well as ranchers. I'll leave it at that.

I got a phone call asking me where I had seen the tracks at. I told him where and he said if it was PRIVATE property, he would like to hang up a trail camera. It's state land where I saw them. They are here. I think the WDFW is transplanting them and not saying a word......typical. :dunno:
