2 days before
Well we finally get into winthrop after 6 months of planning and getting ready we are now 2 days away from our 5 days pack in trip. We are in Winthrop on the 13th trail head at 7 in the morning on the 14th and the opener on the 15th. We drove around town that night and the deer are everywere, if you have never been to winthrop, go its damn cool seing all the local deer and eating at 3 finger jacks.
Here are some pics of that night

Congrats!
looking forward to "The rest of the story"

The morning before
We arrive to the trail head around 7 ish and after 2 hours the outfitter shows up, come to find out he has some wiring trouble and had fix the truck before he got up there. He likes to make an entrance cause al we heard was a big rig hauling ass up the rd, this is how he hauls his train.
Here are some pics of that morning, the trail head and we are off into the woods on a 9 miles trip in.
-
Sounds like a fun trip!!! I cant wait for the rest of the story!!!

The evening before
We finally arrive at camp after a wacked out horse ride. I was bucked off and jammed my finger and then my horse went thru a bee hive (ground hornets) and that was an 8 second ride for sure. Pretty much what can happen on a pack in trip on a horse happened to me. Thank god that it landed on the trail and not on the down hill side.
These are pics arriving to camp that evening and some mt pics

Opening morning day #1 buck #1
Opening morning finds the 5 of us scatering in dif. direction. We were all going blind but we had an idea of were to start. Its a 1500 foot climb in .5 miles, do the math its very steep. We were getting up at 4 in the morning and hiking in the dark just to get up the hill from camp. When my dad and I reach the top we start glassing the open ridges and at 9 oclock in the morning dad spots his buck! We had him at 492 yards and he was about 50 yards from his bedding ground (as you can see in the pic), so we did not shoot and watched him bed up. He never did come out of that thicket so about 9 oclock we head over there and make a game plan. I ended up having dad get down wind on the open hillside were he can watch both directions and I went above on the up wind side of the thicket. It worked perfectly, it took the buck about 2 minutes after I got into pososition for the buck to jump out his bed and he headed straight to dad. He shot him at about 100 yards or so and then the worked began.
Its not a huge buck by any means but its his first decent muley and he defently earned it. He dropped it off to rolly today to get mounted. I was dam excited to see the hunt pan out the way it did.
The buck is a 5 x 6 with some cool crowns on the main beams.
Day #2 buck #2 pics later on tonight.

Day #2 buck#2
My buck is nothing to brag about, but it has some memories involved, cause dad was with me and there was 3 more bucks with mine. A batchalor heard with 4 bucks in it. I did not now this, all I saw was the 1 buck standing there. I pulled up and shot him at about 150 yards or so. He pretty much piled up right there, Then it got EXCITING when my buck fell the other 3 came into view and there was a brute with him. He was about 24-25 wide 4x5 with about 10 fronts and matching backs, just a beast. My dad and I watched him for 2-4 minutes or so, he walked up to about 80 towards us and we were just in aw, a buck that big, that close and my deer is in the background laying dead. A true bittersweet moment. Watching the buck of a lifetime at 80 yards with a rifle in my hand and nothing I could do about it.
Here is some pics of my buck and the meat pole back at camp. 2 days of packing out deer and we were wooped.
-
Nice !!
-
Very cool! Congratulations!
-
Way to go! What great memories! Did any of the other crew have any success?
-
I see two true, trophy bucks there :brew:
-
Nope, we filled 2 out of 5 tags, but everyone hiked there butts off and hunted pretty hard. The area was not big enough for 5 guys to hunt and by the 3rd day the deer were getting hard to find after 2 days of rifle shots and human activity.
-
Nice bucks and great pictures!
-
There may have been a bigger one but your buck and the memories are nice trophys.

Congrats to you and your dad! the story was worth the wait!!!!!! NICE BUCKS

looks like a great time. those are good bucks for the area, bruziers are nice, but the exception not the rule.....you should be very pleased with the rewards of your labor.
I am happy to see the fire did not sterilize the area.
