Title: Laminated Stocks
Post by: huntnphool on March 20, 2008, 04:10:53 PM: I loaned my stainless/synthetic Ruger M77 7mm to my brother last year and the ring for the sling ripped out of the synthetic/plastic/nylon/etc. stock. I want to bed it on a Laminated stock now and would like to have opinions from you guys on this. I also want links to sites that sell them if you can help me find some. I have found a few but I'm sure there must be a ton out there. Here are a few examples of what I'm looking for, although I don't like the blue, it is just an example. I do want the thumb hole though.

cat-there are plenty available for savage rifles...look at boyds gunstocks...they sell them in cabelas.

The stocks that you are looking at are Richards Microfit, they are nice but they do require ALOT of work when you get it- been there done that, once finished and bedded they are great. Is this a carry gun? If so your going to be adding overall weight to the gun. Boyds is another that offers thumbhole designs and for the most part are a complete drop in. I dont know how to post the link but if you search long range hunting forums Joel Russo has some as well. Like its been said the Mcmillian are simply awesome, I have an A5 model on my tactical 300. Couldnt ask for better form,fit and function in my opion, just be prepared to wait abit .Hope this helps, if you need anything just ask.

I ordered a McMillan this morning and was told 4-4 1/2 months. shoud be worth the wait though.

I really like the Tigerwood with the stainless and am looking for something similar. I will look up the Boyds stocks though, I have Boyd Coddingtons on my Excursion ;)

The Ross Thumbhole Stock is nice but only comes in 2 colors, and I don't care for either. Thanks though. I may be hitting you up for finishing advice on the other ones.

Like said above, call or e-mail Mr. Russo, he makes some great designs, and not much wait. Ask him to send you some pictures if you like. He makes a great A-5 copy in a laminated stock.

This was an e-mail that I had recieved from Joel Russo. He makes some very nice laminated stocks, and will inlet them to the action that you desire. Send him a line for the info you want, he made some great looking laminated A-5 stocks.

On the one that I did from Richards I think he let a rabid beaver do the roughing out, took me FOREVER to remove the excess wood, staighten out the foreend and to fit the bottom metal. Dont get me wrong, its not hard but for what I had spent on this you would have thought the QC would have been better. This was on a Ruger M77. If you have any questions just let me know. Good luck with your project.

Post by: Big Stick on April 08, 2008, 11:04:14 PM: I've laminates from most makers and the greatest laminate attribute IMHO,is the ability to sculpt same to the end user. GOOD laminates needn't be sealed after that fact,but are heavy for like reasons(epoxy impregnated,which adds density).

I dig Western Guntstocks,ElkRidge Laminates,Fajen,Lawson,some Boyd's,Jim Cloward's stuff(Rutlidge supplied) and a few others.

Rutlidge supplies most and cutting to that chase,will save serious loot................
