Title: Truck Canopy
Post by: chrisb on September 21, 2010, 11:21:13 AM: Looking at getting a new truck and i want to factor in the cost of a canopy. Where have you guys gotten yours and what did you pay? I'm looking at a 2010 Ram and I'd like a new/newer canopy to match well.

Post by: NWBREW on September 21, 2010, 12:10:18 PM: Superhawk canopys. All depends on what you want in a canopy....alum or glass. I had an alum. custom built and it was 900 bucks......that was over 20 years ago. I would go with glass now...I'm geussing 2k. give or take. :dunno:

Baic fiberglass model with sliding side windows, sliding front window with drop down glass to give access to the glass on the truck cab for cleaning and carpeted headliner. Mine was about $1100 in '06. Whatever you do, don't let the dealership put it in the deal and charge you separate, they will jack the price up. They offered to get me quotes and I let them but they wanted close to $2,000 for the same canopy I bought.

Haven't spent the money yet to get it painted to match, and I'm pretty sure I won't unless I win the lottery. Looks aren't that important to me. I wouldn't want to be without a canopy on my truck, it makes it so much more useful.

My buddy's dad worked at one and he said that a lot of the time they will get a truck in with a canopy on it and the person who buys it does not want the canopy. If you put the word out to some different lots they might end up with one that will fit your need.

Post by: flashover52 on September 22, 2010, 09:38:22 PM: I bought a new Gem Top fiberglass and it came color matched to my pickup. That's about the only advantage to buying a new canopy is you can get the model with the right curves your your year/make/model truck and matched to the right color.

I used to have a red pickup with a white canopy --- looked kind of goofy until I bought some white rims for it and got rid of the basic steel with hubcaps. That was back in the 80's.....

I agree but the truck will be my wife's primary vehicle, i commute too far to afford the gas for it, and she insists that it match.

Tim these caps look very functional. How much do they run? Might be worth a trip to Reno.

Then I got laid off. Bought a used one yesterday for $150- it'll cost a sheet of plexi to replace a broken wing window and a few rattle cans to make it match the truck. Total about $200.

I asked them why they don't have dealers or why they don't post prices. His answer was that typically canopy companies don't list prices. After I told him that his canopy wasn't typical and he should not follow the herd, he stated that prices confuse people and he wants to talk to his customers.
He also says that they have different colored fabrics although black is what is shown but he won't show or describe the colors on the web because users see colors differently on their computers....oh well. I like the concept but cannot wrap my mind around this guys logic. I may wait until he gets some dealers on board and look later.

Yeah they do look very high like quality. I like the backdoors on that canopy. If you had them make it a little higher it would be easy to put a lot of different things in the truck like a quad.

sounds like the smart choice to me. if mama ain't happy, ain't nobody happy. would like to see a pic of the truck with the new canopy. what brand did you get and why that brand?

It is silver and my truck is gray...close enough for me. I have gotten quotes from a couple different places anywhere from $250-350 to paint it to match. Disclaimer...I told the painters it didn't need to be perfect because my truck is 9 years old with 120k miles on it. It's been through the ringer so it doesn't need to be perfect.

I'll try and get some up tonight. The canopy is a Range Rider 'Cruiser' model. I got it at Canopy West in Everett. They even price matched to what their competitors quoted me. The deciding factor was in stock availability. They were able to get mine from another location in 3 days and all the others said 2+ weeks to get one in the right color.
