I was wondering if any body has been hunting Prescott so far? If so how are the deer numbers looking, see any good bucks this year?
-
Havnt hunted it yet, only 3 weeks :IBCOOL:
The numbers look good, should be a good year.
-
There was a big fire out there by Eureka. Dont know what that did????
-
that fire was didnt hurt too much, mostly sage. caused by some guys shooting a .50 bmg prone. rumored they were shooting tracers, but dont know that for sure, still seeing lots of deer
-
If it's anything like last year, expect a pickup truck in every pull out opening morning... :twocents: I don't know why we got hit so hard down here in this corner last year, but I heard rumored that it had to do with the winter kill in the Colville area. Hope we don't get hit like that again. I talked to one gamey that said he checked 72 trucks on one road between noon and 3:00pm on opening day.
-
Well I wouldn't go to that road :chuckle: I don't know who said that there are deer out there :dunno: I try to wait till monday/tuesday those areas seem to be a little funner about that time!

Good idea. I shot mine on Tuesday last year. Only saw one other guy out there...

You talking about the fire out by Struthers? Heard the same thing
-
i believe thats the one, it burned a long ways, but didnt hurt much
-
There was one on the west side of Harvey Shaw Rd and south of 124 that burned some of the river bottom, wheat fields and up the hill. If you get over towards Eureka you can barely see the burn area from 124. I've been back and forth on 124 quite a bit and have only seen a few does.
-
Yeah mostly just wheat

I think I like Sumpinneedskillin's assessment. All the deer in that area died in the fire (except 2 does). You guys should go hunt in Colville. Their economy needs a boost anyway. 8)

I Think you are right, same thing that happened to the elk

Yeah, I know. It's wierd. Check this out, from just last weekend... :dunno:

I didn't go there last year, first year in 10 years that i didn't go to Prescott. My dad went and didn't say anything about there being alot of people over there, so maybe he was on a different road? Thanks to the people that gave some good information. I'm looking forward to being over there in about 3 weeks.
-
if you have private to hunt it wont be bad, most ffth land is a zoo, besides there arent any deer left there
-
well regardless of deer being there or not i'm going over there. I hunt on the public land
-
Good luck to you, i will be headed to a different pumpkin patch :chuckle:
-
It wasn't just one road, that's just the one I talked to the Gamey about.
I was in a FFTH spot that (I thought) was walk-in only. There are usually 3 or 4 other guys in there opening weekend. Last year, there were no less than 12. Some of them had even driven their pickups in there. I hiked PathfinderJRs 10 year old butt an hour and a half through the freezing fog to get to the finger we had been scouting from. Pretty demoralizing for the fog to lift and him to be staring across the draw at two fat guys sitting in their truck with the heater on, eating %$#@ donuts >:( . I don't know, maybe they got permission from the landowner or something :dunno:
-
there is quite a buddy system out there :dunno:
-
I used to hunt out there a fair bit, got tired of the growing numbers of knuckleheads.
I will say, I did see a couple of bucks out there that interested me this year. I would hunt them but I'm hoping for something a little better.
-
You know, I went back and looked at some of my pictures from last year. I never noticed the sign before. Maybe I'll hunt Colville this year too... :dunno:
-
Looks like that may be a better bet
-
FANGS :yike:
-
I know two years ago i went over there and there was some jack a** out there driving through the CRP. I was pissed! We have always had pretty good success over there. There's only been a few years that i have had to eat my tag, both of those years had i shot better i would have had a buck. Pathfinder i don't know what area you hunt over there but we always have hunted off of skyrockett rd.
-
While scouting that area 2 weeks ago i saw 12 legal bucks. The deer are there, but like previously posted there is plenty of hunters as well.
-
I have hunted the Skyrockets before. Generally I hunt a little south of there now. One of the problems is that there is no muzzy season in Unit 154, so all the blackpowder hunters hunt the Prescott unit. I see a lot of good muzzy bucks taken during that season. Rifle hunters get what is left.
-
i hunt that area every year last year i shot a nice 4x6 whitetail opening morning but this year i will be on my own since my dad quit hunting washington so i will see you guys up there

Where are you going to be at over there? If your over on Skyrocket we will probably see you over there.
-
i hunt skyrocket, piper canyon, donnely and sudbury roads. do you guys camp right on top by the radio towers
-
Yea, the travel trailer that is usually there is ours. My dad is not coming this year either so it's going to be me and a few others with a tent. I asked if I could use the travel trailer and got a hell no.
-
I'm new to the area, we live in Kennewick. Looking for some land to hunt around here such as prescott, dayton etc. People have told us to check out the blue mountains but I've talked to others who say the CRP and wheat fields are the way to go. Any advice? And also anyone know of public land to hunt?
-
yeah i would try winthrop

Unless you have permission for some private ground your in for a shock as of muzzleloader season all of the FFTH on Donnelly and some on Piper is shut down

-
