Anyone catch this on the news? They showed a few photos of a black bear approaching a herd of cattle and the cows head butted it to the ground. :chuckle:
I can't find anything online about it.
-
I got these in an email yesterday.

Cows. America's new Dangerous Game!

Looks like he either lost a bet or had to prove something to the other bears. He might be thinking "Man, initiation SUCKS!". :)

Tenderized bear meat

BEEF! It's NOT what's for dinner! :chuckle:

Jump in....jump out. I had heard that the gangs were expanding.

Amazed? Kinda!! :P
Someone should put him/her out of its embarrassment/misery :hello:

Pretty well guess the camera man didn't own the cattle or have a gun. That's a pretty cool sequence. Looked like a small bear.
-
Don't have a cow man, just grin and "bear" it!

BEEF! It's NOT what's for dinner! :chuckle:

Cows. America's new Dangerous Game!
I hate free range cattle in the Okanogon. I've been riding my dual purpose bike on FS roads and come in close contact with them more than once. I give them a wide birth most of the time, but I've been charged by a mama with calves more than once. I've walked through them and generally just throw a big rock and bruise some meat and they all run. But not always. Some of the big ones will actually stand their ground.
That poor little blacky bit off a little more than he could chew.

I had a moo cow almost trample my ecaller once. It was drooling and stomping and very pissed off over the rabbit distress I was playing. After I stood up it was bellowing and giving me the stink eye. I thought I was gonna have to run for it. :chuckle: :chuckle:

Those are incredible photos. Thanks for sharing.. I bet that bear is gonna be mighty sore for a few days, probably has a concussion getting smashed by those cows like that. lol.. Nice to see the power of a herd..
-
pretty cool pics.... talk about wounded pride
-
Nice to see the power of a herd..
More like a gang.
-
Wow, those cows are aggressive! Almost like predators. I guess pretty soon we'll have a ban against the use of dogs with cattle... maybe even no "baiting" of cows. Does that mean I'll no longer be allowed to feed my cows? I'm so confused. :P
-
ha. that's awesome! Those cows gave that bear a whooping!
-
gotta take his coffee black I guess... :chuckle:
-
that bear has a severe case of mad cow disease

X2 I camped on a hilltop over Black Pine Lake..(?) bunches of'em crashing through woods all night mooing and bawling. When leaving time came I found the road out damn near paved wth cow pies for long sections...

With cows just look big and move slow and you are good 99.99 percent of the time. I have had a run-in with a Percheron stud that I thought I was going to have to shoot. He was big and mean.
Those pictures are awesome.

pretty sweet! i wonder if the bears jaw maybe got broke. it was sure hanging in the pics, after they got ahold of him. :dunno:

Here is the story that came with the email
Hi everyone:
A couple of evenings ago, Wayne went out to check the cows and saw a very strange sight and was able to photograph the event. A black bear approached our cow herd which turned out to be a very big mistake on his part.
The blonde and white Simmental cow we know as I-12. She is a very good cow, a very attentive mother and about 12 years old. She's in her prime and knows that bears are bad news. She went right for him and tried her best to mash him into the ground. A younger cow, R-55, an Angus-Cross cow, age 7, is helping her out as best she can. It is an incredible photo to see two cows at once trying to crush the bear. There are a couple of photos where the bear is biting I-12's leg and clawing her face but she is not giving up. Her stiff tail shows how agitated she is. Wayne said all the cows were bawling, the bear was squealing, the calves were running around with their tails in the air. Finally, the bear decided to vacate the area. We thought he'd be dead for sure, but there was no sign of him the next day. We'll have to keep an eye out for eagles in the trees or flocks of ravens flying up. We're sure he's got some broken ribs out of the deal at the very least.
I looked up the calving records of both cows who are so aggressive in these photos and they are both good, calm cows around us and have given us no troubles whatsoever. I'll have to add in my notes that they have a very distinct dislike of bears.
We'll be watching I-12 over the next few days to see if she needs treatment for infection. I don't know how willingly she'll come to the corrals for treatment, but she might not have a choice.
Wayne couldn't believe his eyes when he witnessed this ruckus. This is another once-in-a-lifetime photography event to add to all the others he managed to document this summer. It is amazing.

What the story didn't say was that after the attack, the bear stopped and licked its butt. Apparently it was trying to get the taste of councelman out of it's mouth!

-
I have read good stories about old time cattle drives with Texas Long Horns tackling grizzly bears and not always losing. That blackie is lucky those cows did not have any head gear.

BURNS, Ore. – An Eastern Oregon rancher got an unusual battle on camera between a bear and some very brave cows.
The bear began to attack a cow and then the entire herd came to its aid. One cow in particular got especially aggressive and head-butted the bear right off its feet.
Then, two cows sandwiched the bear between their heads.
After that, the bear decided to flee and limped back into the woods.

Cows are cool, it is amazing what a herd animal will do.
-
Wow, cows really are interesting animals
