So a couple years ago.. not last year I don't think... there was a little friendly comp. on here similar to the coyote madness one. Just wondering if anyone has the time to put it together this year?? I'm not volunteering because I sure as hell don't have the time but someone else might...
-
Can we nominate individuals??? I nominate carpsniperg2. ;)
i just saw we broke the record again today. :IBCOOL: 260 members on line. i looked at it at like 12:30 today and we were only down like 20 people to set the record again and here it is. This is the best site period :IBCOOL: on sep 28Th i will have been here a year and i have around 8500 posts. i am addicted to this place, great stories, pictures and great people.
-
LOL yeah carpsniper, I 2nd the motion.
If you're thinking for ducks, break the contest up so it's not just quantities... certain guys, some maybe in this thread (cough cough) have more ducks by end of Oct than some do in a season, LOL
different species, first of a species, etc. I do remember it from like 2-3 years ago too.
-
8) 8)
-
I agree....find it Carp and make it so.
-
yeah this would be cool
-

I have a great little pond that will produce lots of ducks. That along with a few other places and I will be in the running. 8)
-
If this gets set up again, im in. will it be a team thing or individual? :dunno:
-
so you are tellin' me that a winner could be most ducks... there are people that go everyday! ha that will kill the rest of us... we need to get a ratio of number of birds per hunt :)
-
I agree Jordan... average per hunt or I remember it being certain amount of points per duck like any hen 1 point. Rarer ducks like Can's worth a higher amount and more common ducks like Mallard drakes worth 2 or 3. I don't really have the time to set up a list of ducks and points but I guess I could do that much of it if someone wanted to run anything else
-
sounds sweet to me! I like the team idea too.
-
wow guys thanks for the kind words and nominantion :IBCOOL: you guys are great :IBCOOL:
maybe that will get me a eye on a mod spot in the future the way the site is expanding ;) what you say bone ;) i do spend a lot of time on the site. and love this place. " i think it shows :chuckle:"
never saw the first one but i would be happy to work on it. and get some ideas going :IBCOOL:
-
sweet, sounds like this might actually happen this year. and only 3weeks til season
-
Alright well Carp I will make up the points system as close to I remember it from a couple years ago. I think maybe we could make teams within the forum kind of like the coyote madness contest.. but if you want to be by yourself you can you just might not win :chuckle: also I think making a rule about how often you can count your partners total if they aren't on the forum should be put in place because for one it will get more people on the forum because they will have to sign up and two it will be more fun if they can add in on the hunt and what not
-

shouldn't a Pintail be worth more than 2 and a bufflehead be worth less than 4??? also you missed a number for the Oldsquaw....
-
and harlis should be the highest of all of them cuz u can only shoot one a season
-
Ok ok like I said I did that in like 5 minutes. Ill go fix it up
-
easy guys lets play nice :chuckle: i am happy he is saving me a lot of time :chuckle:
-
There Harli's are worth 10 now. I didnt make them 10 at first because not everyone in the state even has an opportunity to even see one in a season...
-
can we try and get the subspecies of canadas in there? im thinking an aluetian or a vancouver should be worth something. :dunno:
-

hey no worries bro! At least you took the initiative to do it!!
-
can we try and get the subspecies of canadas in there? im thinking an aluetian or a vancouver should be worth something. :dunno:
Ehh... I think we can just count those as Canadas as far as points go because us eastsiders don't have as many sub species as the westside... so that would give them the upper hand... Im trying to make this as general as I can for the state as a whole.. just for fairness

the only other thing i would say is bufflheads should be down around the .5-1 range.
should be fun though, what we thinking teams of 2? or 3?
-
i think min 1 max 3, i was also toying with the idea of going by skill level. say a pro is a single team,a average guy= 2 to a team and beginners= 3 to a team :dunno: or just stick with 1-3 no matter the skill level what you guys think
-
i think it should be the same for everyone except for the people who go out everyday, cuz if there was a team of 3, they would have an advantage over a team of 1 unless that one person went out everyday of the season
-
common merganser is worth 4 and a mallard 2? do you have to retrieve the merganser to actually receive the points? I'm all for saving the salmon and floating mergies down the river!!!
-
working on a write up for the contest right now. my early muzzle starts in the am so i should have stuff squared away in a day or to and will post a new topic for the contest. big thanks to ducks55 and h20 you 2 will be my wing men on this :chuckle:
-
Alright well we will get those points all situated when we get everything else figured out. Thanks for everyones :twocents:
-
how about we do 2 parts on the contest: a individual catergory and a team catergory with 2 members. a person can only be in one catergory.
THOUGHTS :dunno:
-
I want to know why you have Oldsquaw as 4 and Long Tailed duck as 5.........................its the same friggin bird.
-
meats we are just ruffing things out right now. take it easy. to much negitive will not make this happen or be very fun. if there is a mistake please tell us and we will get it fixed we do have 3 weeks tell season. thanks
-

:chuckle:
-
So will this be done on a points per hunt or season total basis? You could do either, I guess. I probably won't win or be close because I can't make it out as much as I want, but this game gets me even more pumped for the season :chuckle:
-
we are still working on the team format and the scoring
-
If you need any help with an excel setup let me know. I'd prefer not to maintain it, but I'm happy to get something going if you think it'd be fun.
-
have at it meats, go fix it for us. I said there was *censored* that needed to be worked out
No need. The whole idea of a killing contest is, well...................GAY
This is the kind of *censored* that is killing our sport.Guys make it all about kill numbers, bands, barrel stickers and black hoodies.
Makes the younger crowd look at hunting for all the wrong reasons.
To me time in the field wioth friends, family and a good dog is what it is all about..............not kill numbers.
A bunch of wanna be posers if you ask me.
To some of us waterfowling is a year round event with summers spent going to calling contest, making decoys(not buying them ) training and running dogs in hunt test and such.
Then some goobers dust off the ole scatter gun the weekend before season and want to rack up some kill numbers and call themselves "duck hunters".
The whole contest idea makes me sick.Hell some of these guys dont even know what species they are talking about.
-
this contest is for promoting the sport, and having fun. getting new people to sing up for this great site. if you don't have anything positive to say or add please do not add your 2 cents.
-
hey meats if youy stand back and look you are the one not helping the sport us guys that cant dedicate every minute to the sport that have families and jobs outside of the industry that hunt every chance we can within our limitations that still buy licenses and the decoys and shells and calls that keep this a growing sport and you look down your nose at us. i dont get to hunt a whole lot because of family and work but when im in the field i give 110% and give the birds the respect they deserve and you cant tell me there isnt friendly competition in your blind between you and your buddies this is just on a bigger scale if you dont want to participate then dont its that simple :twocents:
-
Me thinks meats should stick the the FUGE! Cuz hes way to good for us slobs

Yes a killing contest is completely what this is... no, it's a friendly competition to get more people involved. You just try to stir *censored* up around here Meats and that's well ....... GAY.
And BTW this contest isn't about overall kill numbers, barrel stickers nor is it about black hoodies. It's about fun. And as for the younger crowd looking at it the wrong way... no. This kind of "*censored*" won't make anyone young or old get their ass up at 3am to go kill a duck. That's not how any waterfowler looks at things when he/ she gets up at o' dark thirty. They look to have a good time in the blind with their buddies. I can guarantee to most waterfowlers, duck hunting is a year round event. They may not be in the calling contests or making their own decoys just because they lack the talent but I can guarantee you they are practicing calling and going through ideas for a better quality season. They are working with their dogs day in and day out. And for the species of duck comment as I know that was directed at me. You can kiss my ass. I said a couple of times I did that in 5 minutes. I wrote what came to mind. I've never hunted sea ducks before, never even seen one in person. I just thought of the few names I've heard. So stop bitching if you don't want to help and the whole idea of a contest makes you sick.
Wow pretty cocky for a 18 year old kid.
You always talk to adults that way.
If you want to have a contest to promote the sport have a contest for the biggest / smallest goose.
Have one for the pintail with the longest sprig.Lots of ways to do it without seeing who can "KILL THE MOST"
Sorry you are so wound up kid but kill numbers/points is just a dumb way to promote the sport.
See you can type a whole paragraph with out the need to cuss little fella ;)
Sorry to everyone on this post but I made a simple joke about a oldsquaw and THE KID had to come out swinging.
I should have kept quiet and not replied to the "KID" but I typed without thinking.
Fishranger and carpsniper I meant no I'll feeling and thank both of you for replying like men and not swearing like a sailor trying to be tough.
Now for ducks55 I will be in Eburg several times this season so if you really want to be tough and stand by your "kiss my ass" comment...........we can meet up and see if you really want to say that to me.

This is locked by sisu & will stay this way until Ray & I talk.
Alright I read all 4 pages while I'm trying to watch Broken Trail and I don't like my westerns interrupted!!!!!
If everyone can cool down not act all Internet tough & big balls then the thread is open, but if I another complaint from threats, cussing, swearing etc. then I got to lock & probably start looking for trouble makers and I don't want to do that.
From what I read each person here likes to hunt & have fun, & truth be known if most of you guys meet would probably be friends.
-
amen brothers! lets all have fun :IBCOOL:
-
Yes fun. So carp lets get this figured out. If that list needs some re working let me know. But lets talk through PM's
-
I am not sure why this isn't locked as Sisu stated and I will leave it unlocked for now. If it gets out of hand again it will be locked, as will any other waterfowl contest thread.
-
Locked as per request
-
I'd use this thread to brainstorm your contest and when you come up with it, present it in a new thread. Play nice.
-
thanks Bone-
Guys, here's a suggestion... and I think a good points were brought up on the sheer volume/numbers game. I personally like to look for as many different species as I can rather than volume overall. Use your points system, require pictures as proof, and maybe use hunters "best 5 hunts" or something along those lines. That way nobody can submit more than 35 ducks for the season. That's 5 limits. Now if a guy bags 7 drake mallards, good deal. Now go get some cans, pins, etc.
another idea, if y'all practice voluntary restraint, you could go negative points or at least lower points for bagging a hen of any of the given species. say a mallard drake is two points and a hen 1. so 6 mallards and a hen for the one day limit = 13 points for the day.
Might be hard to get people to be honest about bagging hens if it's negative points, :P
-
Dustin07- those are awesome ideas. I really like the idea about your 5 best hunts! that way its not people shooting 500 ducks a year and it gives people that only get to be weekend warriors a chance against the guys that go everyday.... its evens things out a lot more!
-
very very good points guys! me and my cuzz were talking along that same line last night, when we were brain stormin.
i was thinking somthing along those lines for sure. maybe a team part and a individual part to the contest as well. members could only be in one part of the contest.

YAY!!!! :IBCOOL:
-
There is now a contest posted at the top of the waterfowl area. Good luck to all :IBCOOL:
-
Cool, that's pretty well thought out 8)
at first I thought the pins were a little high since they are so common in some areas, but since legal limit is only 2 pins a day anyways that levesl the playing field. especially if someone from a non-pin area bags a can ;)
-
 most the pins here show up very late most times after the season has closed. we mainly get the mallards/teal/widg and a few rare others like the woodducks. thanks i think it should be great
