I got my Tikka put together and sighted in. .25-06
This should replace my .30-06 for High Buck hunting. I must say that for the price the Vortex DiamondBack 4x12x40 seemed to be the right choice for me.

i might have to get me one of them there tikka's. looks good hunt was
-
nice piece. I have always wanted a 25-06 for deer hunting.
-
There's only one thing that I do not like about this rifle. It's a pain in the ass to load a round directly into the chamber. Instead it is much easier to fill and load the magazine. Irritating. Other than that I have no other complaints.
-
A fine looking shootin' iron! Critters better take note!
-
you should bring it over to hunt coyotes sometime. JB
-
Good choice in both rifle and scope. Hopefully it will kill something for you this year!
-
Talk about me getting more.
-

Yeah no doubt. Goose EGG on the deer last year. Talk about disappointing.
-
Nice rifle, got one myself Tikka T3 Lite SS .300 WSM. It should shoot great you will love it. Most my rifles either have a Burris or Leupold scope on them but I have heard nothing but good things about Vortex optics. When you get to use the scope in the field let us know what you think of it.
-

Let's plan on it! :hello:
-
Good choice.
I have two Tikkas, 300wizzum and 7-08. both shoot great and are easy carry all day.
I am in the market for a 243 and it will likely be Tikka, also.
I want to try a Savage but want a detachable mag.
-
LOVE my Tikka T3 Lite SS .300 WSM. Tack drive out of the box, and with Sims recoil pad, not too hard on the shoulder.
Does a number on deer at 30 yards though...... I figured on a longer shot, but he stood up right in front of me.
-
Looks like a fine yote and deer gun. I've killed alot of critters with my 25.
-
I want to try a Savage but want a detachable mag.
I took a close look at the savage and they are nice pieces. I must say that my CZ is still my favorite rifle hands down though!
-
I love my 25-06, loaded with 115grainers, I would not hesitate on a shot at even an elk if it was the right situation, and the elk needed killin. Good lookin fire stick that Tikka.
-
So they have detachable magazines?
-
So they have detachable magazines?
my .300 wsm tikka t3 magazine holds 3
-
So they have detachable magazines?
Yep, detachable. No floor plate or hinge either as on an A-Bolt. Straight magazine, pop it in a ready to roll
-

Ooo I like that.
-
Until you forget the clip somewhere :chuckle: :chuckle:
:chuckle: funny you should mention that......... I cannot find my clip anywhere! And at around $65 a pop, not keen on getting another, though an extra or two would be nice.
-
I bought one in 338 federal. I have a 3-9 by 40 nikon on it. I haven't got a load worked up for it yet but I'm working on it.
-
Make sure to keep an eye on the bolt shroud. Mine cracked after less than 100 rounds, and I have the 300 WSM. I work with a guy who has a 7mm and his cracked between 150-200 rounds. I see a guy at the range once in a while, and he says he is on number 3 in as many years.
I called Tikka (beretta), and they told me to hunt/shoot my gun without the shroud until it came in the mail, but there is something about shooting a rifle without all of its pieces that doesnt appeal to me to much...
-
That bolt shrowd (or is it shroud?) is really cheap ghetto looking but I heard on another bulletin board that it is not mission critical to the rifle. At any rate this new rifle is as much fun to shoot as my CZ now that I have a good load which it likes. Miles you were right... good fun. It seems I can sometimes get one round right on top of another one and then a third stray every now and then. :rockin: :mgun2: :whoo:
-
Tikka is Scandahoovian for "Tasco"..................
-
I have a tasco scope. Goes real well on my 10/22.
-
bolt shroud?...where is this located? forgive the ignorance...but if it has a tendancy to fail, I want to keep an eye on it.
I have put about 50 rounds through mine so far...
thanks~!
-
saylean,
The shroud is the rearmost portion of the bolt, nearest your nose. It is the LAST line of defense, regarding gas shielding,in a catastrophic case failure(bore obstruction, wrong ammo, inappropriate powder, yada, yada).
Tikka's are the Scandahoovian's bottom of the barrel offering and are poor in numerous regards(personal safety, topping that list).
Should a shroud let loose,it is in THE exact proximity of your frontal lobe and the escaping gasses can/will scoot it to terminal velocity.(pun there)
Poor design, poor materials...replete with NO redeeming qualities..................
-
Wow, no redemeing qualities! :o
Nothing like trying to blast someone elses gear completely out of the water. Nice Try "Big Stick". The problem is, I doubt many here are taking commments like that seriously.
I for one am no gun expert. But, I have heard great things about Tikka. I also understand that most manufacturers have issues with an occasional design flaw. I think that honest discussion on a board like this is what owners of this gun want and need, not just attacks. If you have knowledge, please share...
-
I've owned three Tikka's over the years. A T3 Hunter 25-06 and then a T3 Lite Stainless in both 25-06 and .308
All three were MOA or better right out of the box with factory ammo. The actions are very slick, they feed flawlessly, and the trigger seems like it's all Sako - adjusts effortlessly with an allen wrench (without even removing the barrel and action from the stock) down to a very crisp, safe 2lbs. Plus, they're light and balance well IMO - add this to their function and accuracy and I can see where many feel there's a lot of value there, even if they aren't beauty queens and despite the extensive use of plastic.
I ultimately sold my Tikka's as there are certain aspects of the rifle build I do not like.... especially for a hunting rig.
1. Liberal use of plastic parts
2. Detachable Clip
3. Hard to load from the breech
4. Action Length..... only 1
5. Plunger ejector and a hook style extractor
6. Synthetic stock feels flimsy and has too much flex
And then of course there's the bolt shroud issue.....
-
I have several tikkas love them all, I have only been shooting 50 years tho, so dont know much. Of new offerings I feel the Tikkas outperform the Remingtons, rugers, Weatherbys, howas, savages etc. and do so by a substantial margin. these are from223 thru 300 win mag and short mag. Hundreds of rounds.
Hello William!! FOsteology makes some good points for the 'ultimate' in rifles. Claw extractor, manual ejecter, controlled feed, no magazine to lose. I have rifles with those also. For a dangerous game rifle or ultra rugged I agree but for what I do I dont see the point.
All my tikkas are very accurate, astoundingly so.

BigStick is a troll and self-described expert who's been banned on other boards.
Maybe a little knowledge in an extremely insecure package.
Wait til you see the pics from other boards....Like the Village People of outdoor sports.
It only gets better......
-
:ban:
I'm sure he'll re-invent himself.
-
So let me get this straight.... someone posts one of 'Stick's videos on this board. Then, a bunch of people call hin an idiot and a liar, and question his methods. He gets on here an does the same to a few of you in a manner only Stick is capable of... and he gets banned??? A bit hypocritical wouldn't you say?
I guess only those who are willing to appease the masses are allowed to post an opinion... the Red Coats are coming, the Red Coats are coming! ~JT

Nothing like them (https://hunting-washington.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fbestsmileys.com%2Fworking%2F4.gif&hash=029627344226fd828a4051c53dadbee4adc47e01)
Unfortunatley Josh....there are alot of things said behind the scenes with pms and e-mails that aren't evident to everyone.
-
I'm aware.... the guy gets a little rough. But hey, this isn't the MaryKay-Washington site... or did I mess up when I was strolling through my favorite sites again?
-
One thing alot of people don't know, he has the short man syndrome. I reckon if I was 5'1'', I would be a dick too.. Who'd a thunk it?

I never called him an idiot. I never called him a liar or any other names. I put up with his antics and was waiting for him to act like an adult. Instead he comes with this mantra that he knows everything about anything and that everyone else in the world is inferior. I didn't really care about him disagreeing as much as I was tired of reading his instigating and childish remarks directed at anyone and everyone. I can understand people get angry about one subject or another but this guy probably needs some psychotherapy.
This isn't the MaryKay site however this isn't romper room either. People like that can grow up or get the hell out.
-
too funny... my g/f's dad is a short fellow.. he hates my guts. oh the things he says about me or wants to say..
-
Doesn't have to be Marykay. A bit of civility or manners might be helpful. Troll behavior is not tolerated or welcomed. Heated discussion and disagreements are all fine.
-
I hear ya... I just thought it was a little quick, that's all.
-
Back to the the tikka question...
Thanks for the explination, to the gentlemen who got banned. I can admit there are some things I dont care about, for the Tikka...mainly loading directly into the barrel is a pain....
I will keep an "eye" on the suspect bolt shroud. As for it's function so far....1 bear, 1 massive spike down...seems accurate enough for me...Im no marine sniper (sadly..)
Thanks again~!~
I figured I would get flamed for admitting I didnt know where the shroud was...nice to see I wasnt called a newb, etc... ;)
Cheers
-
There are those that distrust Tikka due to fairly progressive use of composites and weight savings.
If I shot benchrest or wanted to put 2000 rds of thumper ammo downrange, I would suspect those pieces.
For an accurate, lightweight, well-machined huntin stick, I wouldn't worry.
-
Saylean I agree that he did have some good words to say among his responses and there was some truth in a few of his remarks. It's too bad people cannot be polite and want to just dominate everyone on almost every single post they make. Again I do understand heated debates and that people sometimes get upset about one thing or another but I don't believe this was the sort of thing going on here. It's unfortunate.
-
Not agruing about the ban at all, just for an fyi (ban for whatever reason..it is not my say). I used to be a moderator on a video game forum for about 3 years...so I know what the job entails. ;)
IP Bans are great.
It is too bad we "all just cant get along"....
I think people have the winter itch and need to get out to hike/hunt/fish. ;)
Cheers :)

I think people have the winter itch and need to get out to hike/hunt/fish
I think so too.

I don't really have a dog in the fight. I have 1 friend who owns a Tikka... 7mag that he uses for elk. Purchased it due to weight more than anything. I have heard some reports of quality issues w/ Tikkas but I would say overall I've heard more good than bad by about 3 or 4 to 1. Personally they don't really blow my skirt up but I can't say that's based on any real objective concerns. At this stage, I'm not sure they can be anointed to the level of Rem 700s, A-bolts, Rugers, or even Savages.... guns/actions that have stood the test of time. But, "time" will tell. Hell, 20 years from now we may all be clamoring for Tikkas.
-
My remington 700 does not shoot very well out of the box. 1.5 to 2 inches at 100 yards and when the barrel even slightly gets warm it is out to about 5 or 6 inches. My CZ or this Tikka ... both of which permit 1 inch groups at 100 yards out of the box even after a warm barrel.
On the quality built side of things the Remington is top notch though. I'm guessing it is a bedding problem on this particular rifle.. however when a man spends 650 dollars on a new rifle they are not impressed when it doesn't shoot as well as something 200 dollars cheaper.
-
Come on admit it, some of you guys "do" have the pink caddy hidden in the drive way!
(mind picture of Boneaddict driving back from his honey hole with a monster bull in the trunk) LOL.
As far as Tikkas go, love them, I currently have a Sako finlight. If I had not bought this gun I would defiantly own a Tikka. Sub-MOA out of the box is nothing to sneeze at.
I still hear people bad mouthing Savage with arguably one of the best triggers made on a production rifle. Personally I believe the Tikka/Sako trigger "is" the best on the market. But that is my opinion and we all know what they smell like. ;)
Congrats on the new Tikka, I am sure it will provide you with years of great shooting.
-
One thing alot of people don't know, he has the short man syndrome. I reckon if I was 5'1'', I would be a dick too.. Who'd a thunk it?
So being 5 ft even works for you? :yike: :chuckle:
Just kidding man!
-
I bought my Tikka about two months ago. I found it used at Four Corners store in Castle Rock. The caliber intrigued me( 338 federal), the weight and feel impressed me. I have put over a hundred rounds thru it in that time. The hard loading is rectified by angling the barrel up or down(I don't remember which). The accuracy of this gun has really impressed me. The looks of a gun is secondary to function to me. I'm hard on them, just ask my friends. If I'm going from point A to point B I go the shortest way. There is nothing about the Tikka's that I don't like.
-
I have 2 tikka .243s now and both are sub-moa with factory ammo, they have great triggers and are lightweight. What more can you ask for?
I wish they made them in 7WSM.
As far as the banning---I have seen this guy before on other sites. I think he knows his stuff but in the end he causes way more trouble than he contributes.
-
I am new here, been reading for a long time. Thought I would give my opinion on Tikka rifles. I have two, a 30-06 and a .338 win mag. I have had many rifles over the years but the Tikka rifles are as accurate as any rifle I have shot. I really like the weight of them. Even the .338 mag is easy to shoot but I have been shooting .338 mag in a Browning A Bolt since about 1988. I will probably never hunt again with any gun other than a Tikka.
-
One thing that I've seen is folks proclaiming as a selling point of Tikkas is that they are supposedly 1 MOA out of the box. Maybe I've been lucky but I'd have to say that the bolt action rifles that I've purchased over the years all pretty much have been "1 groups at 100 yards with the proper load. Again.... not sayin anything bad about Tikkas but I'd don't necessarily see that claim as a big differentiator.
Just curious.... are the triggers adjustable on em, if so how easily?
-
I have a rifle out of the box which cannot shoot 1" at 100 yards. A Remington which costed 200 dollars more. I'm not convinced there is any load you can put in this Remington rifle which will get it shooting nearly as well. That is... until there has been some work done on the rifle.. I also am aware that Rugers are hit and miss as well... I suppose that is a valid selling point that a company stands behind a garauntee that their rifles will shoot sub MOA.
-
I have seen alot of rifles that won't shoot MOA out of the box. Its really disapointing, some of the crap thats being turned out. I am happy Tikka is willing to stand behind thier accuracy.
-
I own one in 300win mag, it out shoots anything i have ever owned. This rifle is a killing machine as far as construction, yeah it is a little cheap but the mule deer that are on my wall don't seem to care, does little stick have to use a $4000.00 Rifle to then become big stick kind of like a superman cape?
-
Intruder, I'd say you have been dang lucky. The Remingtons and Rugers I have purchased in the last few years have been hit and miss. None of them shoot like ALL the Tikkas I own.
Yes the trigger is adjustable, easily and no the stock does not have to come off.

I have had my Tikka 300wsm for 5 years and the only thing I don't care for is that bolt shroud. When reloading data for the 300wsm was just beginning to come out shortly after it was introduced, I blew a primer using one of those under tested recipes. It blew the bolt shroud off the back of the bolt but I didn't get any powder in my face fortunately. The funny thing about my Tikka is that while working the load up, I saw no excessive pressure signs in the reloads until I blew that primer. I have been watching my chronograph more intensively ever since. When velocities take a big jump, I now know I have gone a step beyond the max load. All the other bolt rifles I have reloaded for have at least showed a slight stiffness in opening the bolt when overloaded but not the Tikka. Anyone else noticed this?
-
Love my tikka 300 wsm drives nails.

Hi Carl, how's that Tikka I sold you holding up? I miss that ole girl!

:)She is great, she is taking me bear hunting next week. I really like it and thank you!!! I am sorta afraid of scratching her, sure is purty. shoots 180 federal real wll.

Reporting back. I made the first big game kill with the tikka a little while back. Took a 200 yard shot from a kneeling position and dropped a pronghorn in one shot. I used those famous TSX bullets and thought they performed adequately but I seem to think that the good ole Nosler Partition worked better and cost a whole heck of a lot less.
The tikka is still working good. I still think that plastic bolt shroud is going to be a reason why I trade it away eventually.

Nice gun!
I just bought my son a Tikka 7mm-08 to replace his Rem 700 .243. I can say they are very nice guns. It goes to the range today for a test run...
-
I have the T3 in .300WSM. The main thing that I don't like about it is the barrel jump - but that probably just comes with having a mag caliber in such a light rifle. It doesn't hurt to shoot, but the barrel lifts really high. In fact, I scoped myself the first year that I used it. I also noticed that the putting a round in the tube can be difficult. Turn the rifle kind of 3/4 upside down and put the round in - it gets easier with practice.
The trigger is particularly good, especially for a rifle at that price. Very crisp with no creep, whatsoever. It's really accurate, as well. I put a Leupold Vari-X II scope on it that I already had sitting in a closet. Nothing fancy but it gets the job done.

I would also be interested in that. I smacked it on something while I was hunting and sort of creased the plastic (just a cosmetic problem). It would be great to replace it with something a little higher quality.

I just made the order for the rounded shroud. They have a new website.. http://www.hss.net.au/

The new shroud arrived today. It fits just perfect and looks like an original part of the rifle. To me - it's worth replacing.
