Title: Toutle muzzle cow tag!
Post by: funkster on September 30, 2010, 10:04:33 PM
My dad and good friend(more like brother and 2nd dad to me) pulled a group muzzle cow permit for the toutle. We are heading out tomorrow to set up camp and get ready for Saturday morning. We know this area pretty well, my dad had the archery bull tag in 07'. We went down last weekend to check our spots to find they have not changed  elk still there. Checked out a few areas that are newer to us and my dad's buddy got a chance at a nice 3x3 twice :'( First shot was at 80 yards clean miss and the buck just walked off into the timber. He reloaded and walked up 20 more yards, to our suprise the buck walks back out of the timber into the small cut. He is now at 60 yards broadside standing with his head turned to us. Second shot clean miss again :'( After a lot of head scratching and a few choice words we found out later that he was using 20 grains less powder than he thought (we are new to muzzleloading). They went and got a few clear powder measures and headed to the range and everything is good. I am pretty stoked to get a chance to help out the two people that have helped me all my life and got me into hunting. I hope I can come back with two tags filled and lots of pictures! Good luck to everyone that's a field this muzzle season!
