Has anyone heard how the mule deer numbers are this year in the twisp/winthrop area? Was it a harsh winter last year?
-
Seen 8 over there today just running around some of the roads.
-
This is the only thing I have seen. The hunting forecast by district. Has some good info in it.

Our whole state had a mild winter last winter, unlike a few years ago. The key up there is finding something with large enough horns to be legal to shoot, but that is normal for up there.

They all died last winter.

Some of new members that joined Hunting-Washington might not heard about how bad it is. Scott Fitkin (Biologlist) kept telling people No...No... Its not Predators Problem.... Its Winter storm FAULT. How will ALL deer be able to REST whole thur Winter with FULL of Predators. Well I am here to help understand my experiences in past and show Evidences of how bad Predators are hanging out above the Road and Deer below road.
People have forgettn about how many Coyotes they have in this country. ALMOST THOUSANDS of them. They kept running push push push push them down to ROAD END UP KILLED! Deer really loves High Mountain but Coyotes, Cougars, Wolves kept pushing down to Road no wonder why SOO many Deer on Roads. Very sad.. F/G doesnt know how to deal with this.
Deer doesnt want to be bothered by Coyotes, Wolves, Cougars.
Plus There is two Packs of Wolves hanging out up there killing a lot of Deer. Its not only REASON blame on Winter. "Everything" getting hard on Deer Population.
Last winter I went up I could count HUNDREDS of different Coyotes in 20 miles. Impossible to keep Deer Alive.
This Picture to show you idea how many tracks (ONLY WOLVES) can cover this road chase whole Deer down to ROAD. Other Pic from few years ago
Hope this Picture help you better Idea that it makes all Deer going down to FREEWAY ASKING US FOR HELP! Deer will never get REST thur Winter with full of PREDATORS!!!!!!! We cant help Very sorry. I cant afford paying FINE $100,000.00 for Kill Wolf. No thanks. Totally SAD!

My dad was over there a few weeks ago and he had told me that the sign that states # of road kill deer year to date versus last year. This years number so far was already significatly higher than last year. So I would have to imagine that the population is higher this year, or the deer fence is in bad shape this year. :dunno:

I was just over there a few weeks ago to, and the # on the road sign was signifigantly LOWER then last year, it was less then half as many. I think alot of that has to do with them migrating down, and since it was a mild winter this past winter, they were able to stay up in the mountains. just my :twocents:

I just got back from hunting the last 2 days of the archery season last week. Saw lots of deer 5-6 bucks a day.Only heard coyotes one night, but it did sound like we were surrounded. That being said it still is not like it was 5 years ago. I did not go over last year. So you think Winthrop is a good place to coyote hunt?????I have some buddies who are looking for a Area to hunt coyotes. Where you seeing the biggest concentrations?????
-
We have hunted the area for a few years and almost every night we hear the coyotes. And we usually get our tents checked out when we are sleeping. I sleep pretty sound so I dont hear them. But guys I hunt with hear them sniffing around our tents at night.
-
We always have them around our tents at night, drives me nuts because i am a light sleeper and they keep me awake all night! The Bear Creek East campground is the worst. At times it sounds like a herd running through, lol.
-
Hardly any deer in Wintrop or Twisp I'd try your luck way east thats where all the big ones went!! ;)

Not a very good year for the deer, haven't seen much this year up there. I would advise against it. To many hunters anyway! :bdid:
