During our Idaho Archery Elk Hunt this year, we had one day of Moose misadventure. It started in the morning when a cow moose wandered into camp and would not leave. She kept calling over and over and must have been very interested in attracking some Bulls. Before the day was over we had spotted a total of 7 Bulls, 3 of which were in the game trail blocking our return to base camp.
We were able to scare off the first 2 but it was getting dark when we ran into one more Bull 15 yards in front of us. Our lead partner said Uh Oh and starting yelling and shaking a small aspen. The Bull turned and bolted right at us. We dove to get out of his way and he jumped over my bow and almost tramped my legs as I had tripped while diving for cover. I had pulled my .44 mag on my way down and managed to fire a warning shot at the rapidly departing Bull. It still took a large fire back at camp and banging pots and pans to finally get rid of the cow in heat that had reappeared above camp that night!!
The wolves have really knocked down the number of elk and deer in the area we were hunting, but the moose seem to be more than holding there own! :bash:
The posed picture is us practicing our quick draws the next morning in camp:

Sounds like a hunt you will never for get.

Yea after our recent run-in with a bull I'm thinking any afternoon hunts will be road hunting! Do I really want to be out there at night quartering game with a bull trying to mount me with wolves cheering him on? haha

I was thinking about handing out moose in heat urine bottles to all my enemies for Christmas. Every once in awhile someone chimes in on here and asks about it. they obviosuly have never seen a lovestruck moose.

Thanks Boneaddict, but don't think we will need it! My hunting partner already has a great cow moose in heat mouth call!! ;) He also needs to trade up from his .357 mag before his next trip to the woods!!

On one of the Moose threads is a pic a member took over his shoulder while the moose was chasing him, way cool. :chuckle: :chuckle: But I can't find it :bash:

Luckily I've never experienced that.
Love struck moose in the woods, or bubba in prison. If he wants ya, He's gonna git ya.

I've never had a bad experience with a bull. But when visiting my granparents in Fairbanks one summer I got chased up a tree by a cow. She had calves with her that I did not see, man she was mad!
