Title: Mica Peak wolves
Post by: Grizzly95 on October 10, 2010, 03:39:03 PM
Did a quick search and didn't see anything about it. I was up there this morning and talked to a land owner that said he has seen at least 1 up there and hears them on a regular basis. Also said a gamie told him that there are at least 6 up there. Maybe I am behind the times but have you all heard anything? I know a lot of game travels from Idaho to Washington through there and on to Turn Bull. Sorry if it has already come up.

Pretty small area to support wolves, they may pass through there but I doubt they are residents up there.

I may have secured some coyote hunting in the area and will try to get some trail cameras set up in the area. Only going off what the landowner had told me. He was also saying that he has been hearing them regularly for the last 6 or 8 months. Gonna call another land owner in the area and I will ask him about it also.

The guys that helped me with my moose said there is a small pack of 7 or 8 that are in the area.  I didn't see any signs of them, but did see a ton of coyote sign.  Coyote hunting would be fun up there.  I'll be making my way over there this winter for some of that.

I wouldnt be Worry, it still too small area for one Pack to hang out in Mica Peak. Too much Pressures from People around this area.... I have been there before.  Great area to hunt... Great hunting for Coyotes....But I would be VERY WORRIED Once if the Wolf Pack found a way to  Wentachee National Forest!   :bash:

there has been wolves up there for quite sometime off and on... saw the first sign of them in march of 97 snowmobiling..most dont realize how easy it is for the wolves to come out of the coeur d alene natl forest and be there from the south end of the lake, its not as small as some think, pure timber and mts all the way around with minimal highways or pop of people.

My parents live out there and i used to live out there in Freeman and you wouldn't get any sights of any in the foothills but wouldn't be surprised if they went back and forth between Washington and Idaho

If they're there you will know it.  They like to use roads to travel and will go a long ways.  There will be lots of tracks around if they've been patrolling.  Thier howl is pretty easy to distinguish too...

we were on roads when we came across what I though was a herd of el ahd hit the road, got off sleds and it was massive dog tracks..roads were covered! we ended upp on the other side of cable peak and the same thing.. massive amounts of tracks, biggest dog tracks I had ever seen... back then there was no wolf talk going on.. we first thought dog sleds lol..but no sign of sleds or people.

Probably transiet from Idaho.  All good country.  Essentially if there is a moose, there probably is a wolf.  The two go hand in hand

I have a friend who has a trailcam pic from 4 years ago, and I know others who claim to have seen them. I know that the times they saw them were late in the year when the migration was on from the idaho herd. rest assured the guys I know will not stand for errant ferral dogs running game......as we have no wolves.
