Title: east side dog training
Post by: bighorns2bushytails on October 10, 2010, 09:28:08 PM
looking for someone in the spokane area who would be interested in getting together hopefully on a regular basis to either share their knowledge with me or figure out the ropes of gun dog training together.  ive recently gotten a lab puppy that is currently 16 weeks old.  i could use someone who either knows what they are doing or someone whos just interested in lending each other a hand for training. ie throwing bumpers for each other etc.

if anyones interested or knows anyone maybe a friend not on this site shoot me a PM. my schedules fairly flexible just need to find someone whos interested.

thanks gasman.  ive been checking out gundogforum.com  and ive got some books.  but to be honest my dog doesnt seem to be as well umm lack for a better word 'talented' as the dog in the books i read.  i am sure alot of it is my own shortcomings as a dog owner and first time gun dog trainer.   ill find someone i am sure.

machias, you dont live that far away from spokane do you?  perhaps we could compare notes or something.  id be interested just to see other people work/train their dogs even if your not a 'pro' just to see how they are doing it.

Hey there. If you want to work with an awesome upland bird dog trainer contact Ron(995-3524) at the Double Barrell ranch. He is south of Spokane Valley by 15 min. I've been training my GSP with him and could not be happier. My dog is 7 months old and has had 15 or so birds shot over her(after she pointed and held the point). He is very knowledgeable and understands the process well. You can PM if you want and i can give you some suggestions and maybe meet up. I can say that live birds are critical and the sooner you can get your dog exposed to live birds in a manor that you can control( i.e. launchers) the better it will be. I live in Nine Mile. Good luck.

thanks for all the contact info.... i was sorta hoping to meet a non-professional since i cant afford professional assistance ;)  figured there had to be someone whos been there done that maybe trained a dog or two in the past that could give some assitance. or like i said someone else fumbling through it for the first time that wanted to compare notes.

anyways dogs coming along nicely for what weve been working on.  im gunna re-read my books soon as deer season is over and start adding in a few things or what not.  all in all its been a fun experience for the most part doing the training myself, and if nothing else if the dog turns out half way decent itll be a bit more sweeter victory not having had professional training.

anyways off to bed, its 12am and i gotta get up at 4am to go deer hunting...
