Who makes the lightest factory rifle in 338 win mag?
Kimber is 6 3/4# :dunno:
-
You trying to punish yourself for something you did???
-
no just love the caliber...and its a killer :)
-
Yeah, on your shoulder - if you get a light one - make sure and sight it in laying prone.... Youch.... :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:
-
Tikka T3 lite in 338 win mag is 6.4 lbs... Anything lighter??
-
:bdid:
-
I dont dude, i shoot a .338 and love the caliber, however finding a lighter one has never crossed my mind, i guess its cool though you could clap behind your back with your shoulder blades, ala Pat McManus
-
ultralight weatherby doesnt make one....
-
ive got one in a browning a bolt
-
7 1/2 lbs is the lightest I would want in a 338 Win Mag. :twocents:
-
Just found out that tikka discontinued the T3 lite in 338 :'(
-
I second your sentiments on loving that cartridge. If I was limited to a single cartridge for all big game in North America, that would be it.

Browning Mountian TI in .325WSM
5lbs 12oz
:chuckle:
-
I doubt that you'll do much better than the Kimber unless you go custom. I looked into it myself not that long ago. You end up paying an awful lot just to go a few ounces lighter.

not interested in the 325.

Kimber=lots of $$/too iffy on accuracy for me to drop that kind of coin.

There is PROBABLY A REASON FOR THAT.... :chuckle: :twocents:
I LIKE my .338 in the Winchester 70......I like my .416 Rigby in a CZ-550 Safari too!
-
Ive got a 375 rum in Rem 700.... it wacks.. :chuckle:
-
Maybe the T/C Encore in .338?
-
Man I love that round but in a 6-7lb rifle it would bite hard. I would get the limbsaver and ported barrel to make it shootable.
-
.338 + Lightweight :dunno: The .338 weatherby vanguard with a synthetic stock is a nice handling rifle and it kicks no more than the .325wsm xbolt which is a small light rifle.
-
I've been really interested in getting a .338 ultra mag. I think its going to be my next gun...
-
I love my Ruger 338, don't know the weight, don't care. Go hiking and lose a few pounds to make up the difference. :chuckle: :chuckle:

I have a Savage model 16 in a 338 win mag and it is factory at 7 5/8lbs (no scope or rings). Mine is plenty light enough for me, but I was used to hunting with an old 12 or so lb 30-06. So 8 1/2 (with scope) feels great!!!
A guy I hunt with has a Sako that is in the low to mid 6 lb range in a 300 win mag (nice gun!!), so they might make it in a 338 win mag, Not sure.
I agree, 338 win mag is a great caliber/cartidge.
-
my brother in law uses a featherlite model 70 in .338. I don't know the weight but its a killer to target shoot, however he assures me when you're shooting at an elk no pain is involved!
-
I have a Sako that weighs in at 6.75 lbs. I was able to shoot it accurately during load testing from a bench without a recoil pad and without a brake until about round 20. Than I was flinching. Added a limbsaver recoil pad and it is not bad at all, especially in hunting situations. I am not a fan of a brake on any hunting rifle.

That's not the problem vfor the guy who started the thread.
Know what yer dealing with before you make assumptions.

Ever thought of a Ruger #1?

Ever thought of a Ruger #1?
dont like them
just priced out a 338 light weight project....thinking on it.
Does anyone know how many fps id lose if i went with 24in tube vs 26 in 338 win mag? IIRC its not much ???
-
I've had both 26" and 24" .338wm's. They shot the load, 50FPS slower in the 24"
If I ever build another .338 it will have a 23" barrel.
-
don't sweat the barrel length....you can get fast short barrels and long slow barrels, and it will not be enough to make a fuss over.

Model 28 (The Ultimate Alaskan Rifle) - The Model 28 is our magnum action and handles the .338 Winchester size cartridges. Even with powerful hand-loads, recoil is manageable and accuracy is astounding. This is the rifle the serious hunter chooses when failure is not an option.
$3,400 (left-hand add $100)
5 3/4 - 6 lbs

Looks like Remington used to have a "Ultimate Lightweight Model 700 Titanium" that was available in 338 Win Mag..........it appears that they discontinued it. I guess they didn't get too many people wanting to punish themselves with a less than 6 lb rifle chambered in 338WM.... :dunno:

if anyones sees one of those can they let me know.. :)
