i got lost last winter driving home from the chehalis and took a 25+ mile detour down highway 6 :chuckle:, needless to say i seen tons of elk. 5 different herds of elk and alot of deer. but it was 3am and i couldnt really see anything as far as access goes. i couldnt teel if i was going past private of state land.
can anyone give me a general area that i could start along highway 6?
p.s. i didnt get any farther then the 660/672 boundry so i know i was along units 658/660
thanks in advance
i can't scout this area, due to very poor gas mileage. so im trying to make the trip once and stay the whole season.
-
Highway 6 or Highway 101 ??? It really DOES sound like you were lost!
-
sorry highway 101 is correct, i had highway 6 on my mind when i made the post. trying to type and look at a map will do that :chuckle:
i was fishing around cosmopolis and missed the turn from 101 to 107 and just kept on going south on highway 101 :chuckle:

There is a lot of access along that stretch of highway. It's mostly Weyerhaeuser. I don't know about whether gates will be open or not. But there are lots of roads and lots of gates. You could try calling the Weyerhaeuser access hotline and listening to the message.
-
thanks.
i wasnt sure which timber company owned that area. i knew some of it had to be timber company land, or state land. im just having a hard time trying to figure it all out.
thanks again
-
Most of that area is owned by Weyerhaeuser with lots of access, gated and non gated. I must warn you though, there is no deer or elk up there, nope, non-whatsoever. Dont waist your time, oh and if you see a big ole Black F150 with a F150 home made trailer up near the Artic camp grounds during elk season, that isnt me, nope, wont be there. :chuckle:
-
Definitely dont go up the Brooklyn Road! Nothin to see up there either! Nope. ;)
-
Have to agree with the posts above. There are no deer or elk in either of those units. However, if you choose not to listen to the great advise posted by those that don't want you to waste your valuable hunting time then you may want to drop by the Dennis company in Montesano, Aberdeen, or Raymond and pick up a Weyerhaeuser map. There is a ton of access.
Oh, and if you happen to see a green jeep, I am not hunting deer or elk. Just looking for chanterelles and avoiding chores.
-
now im scared...i knew all those deer and elk were GHOSTS!!!!!! AHHHHHH
i think ill go to the blues instead.... *throws up the hitch hiking thumb* anyone goin my way

Maybe in your case that is true. Might I suggest trying a different tact or way of posing your questions. Maybe it is the way you come across? :dunno:
But pertaining to this thread. Re-read the replies. Nothing but good natured ribbing and as a matter of fact most were suggesting or stating that they hunt there.
-
Maybe nobody knows a specific answer to the question? I told him what I knew- there are lots of roads and lots of gates and it's almost all Weyerhaeuser. Call the Weyerhaeuser hotline for access information. 1-866-636-6531
Man I can't believe some of the people on here lately. Demanding answers to every question asked! First "dickwilly" and now "smitty8202". It's fine to ask for help but you can't always to expect someone to lead you by the hand to a trophy deer or elk standing next to the road just waiting to be shot. If that's what you want, you need to hire a guide.
Heck if I knew a great spot to hunt elk in the area bankwalker was inquiring about, I'd be hunting it myself. But I don't. But I do know there's plenty of roads to walk and/or drive on and it's all open to the public. There are elk somewhere in those GMU's. Go find them!

season is 2 days away
I WANT ANSWERS AN I WANT THEM NOW :dunno:
-
its not that I'm demanding answers its just a little irrating. and i apologize for my actions
-
As billythekidrock said, the people who posted "there are no elk there" were obviously kidding. It may be annoying but they weren't intentionally trying to mislead somebody.
-
i am no biggun on here but just ribbin ya a bit
i have asked for input or advice on a few occasions sometimes it seems that i was in a dark room by myself but most of the time you will get responses that you have to read all the replies good and bad and pick out what ya can use
-
Definitely dont go up the Brooklyn Road! Nothin to see up there either! Nope. ;)
;)I think that's a hint!

oh trust me i caught it ;)
-
If ya hav any more ?'s just message me Bankwalker, glad ya caught on! ;) There are lots and lots of access points all over there. Be prepared for lots of orange and if it were me I would hit the timber this weekend. :twocents:
-
I am confused! Read the posts, we all gave good advise with a little fun thrown in. I would not have told him to where to get a good map or the that there was lots of access if I was being zipper lipped. I guess those of us in Grayland like to have a little fun when we help someone out.
-
WOW...just WOW :o
-
yea i thought you guys were more then helpfull. i didnt ask the question expecting a straight answer. thats a little rediculous to expect all the details.
i mean now you guys will have 2 more loud mouth hunters in the woods spooking elk in your direction ;) :chuckle:
i did get some great info on where to go via pm. so that i am very thankfull for.
-
I will be hunting that area too for the 5th year. I been close a few times.and seen quite a few elk.staying with family in the area.
