Ok i am looking at peoples opinions and information on what they know about savage rifles.....Im not just talking about the smaller varmit rounds but for BIG game use.....
#1) What type of savage do you have and..........
#2) Why do you like it or................ why do you not like it?

Whats not to like about a Savage rifle?
I have several all non accutrigger models though. Also have several extra barrels that I swap out myself with out taking to a gunsmith. All are very accurate, and triggers are easy to adjust. The Stevens Rifle is made by Savage and the same action and barrels as the older non-accutrigger just a little less priced. I have never had a problem with any of my Savage rifles.

For an out of the box, straight shooting inexpensive rifle they can not be beat. Love the Accu-Trigger feature.
I have 2 - 300wsm 111 / 116 I also have a 1 111 / 243 Heavy Barrel.
My latest 300 wsm is in stainless with an adjustable muzzle break and detachable clip. I added a mercury recoil suppressor system in the stock and a through on a Kickeez. it shoots like a BB Gun lol
I got them all in the blk synth stock and did my own camo.

i own a savage 116,,black sytnt, ss.... 338,, it is a fine gun. mine has a blind magazine, which i prefer.. not an accutrigger model,, but it doesnt matter as the trigger is smooth, ungritty.. weighs 7 lbs without scope.. i painted teh metal olive drab.. it is a fine dependable rifle,, only one gripe....not a claw extractor rifle,,

Joking on the BB gun thing, ;) however, aside from the sound there isn't much difference between the 243 ans the 300 wsm with all the features.
I would take the Savage everyday. Not a real Rem fan. I am hard on my equipment and am more of a user than a collector.

savage 110 7mm and absolutely love it... first season when i was 12 and a forkie at 400+ yards gotta love it.its my old faithfull.. :IBCOOL:

Savage Model 10 in 243/Accutrigger. Very cool little rifle. Had it just one year. No kills yet, was hoping my son will kill his first deer with it this year. Amazingly accurate and fun gun to shoot. I will be carrying it on my son's first turkey hunt, to dump any yotes with...

I hunt with a Savage model 110 / 300 Win Mag. I am not a big Rifle guy and no expert by anymeans but this rifle seems to work great for me I shoot great groups with Federal premium and it seems like a durable gun too. The only problem I did have however was I noticed while cleaning it one day that the gun fired while on Safe. Took it to Mike Palazzo and found out that a little pin had lost the lock washer holding it on and had slipped out. So I allways check my Safe now before I load it!

In the last 6 months I bought a 338 Win Mag Savage Weather Warrier (model 116, matte stainless with black synthetic stock). I haven't done anything to it yet other than shoot it. I am working on some hunting loads right now. But so far, for the price, it is a great gun out of the box. I am getting right at about 1 minute of angle a 100yds (if I do my part). I think I am going to acraglass it in to the stock and hopefully improve that a little. Great gun!! I like the newer accutriger they have on them, nice and crisp.

I've had a few Savages over the years. A few months ago I sold a pre-'36 Savage Super sporter in .30-30. Trigger had one of the fastest lock times,Savage had a name for it but don't remember. Have a Savage Stevens Model 72 Crackshot .22, the remake of a Stevens Favorite, (a grouse killin' machine), and I have a Model 24F, .30-30 over 12Ga., both barrels print point of aim at 100 yds. I don't have any real modern Savages but I would not hesitate to purchase one in a heartbeat if I was lookin'. I guess you could call this an endorsement from a gun nut. Keep your powder dry.Liberty.

I have two stevens 200s one in 300 win mag one in 223 super accurite with good scopes and a little trigger work. for the price you will not beat a 200.

Very accurate out of the box, durable and tough, reasonably priced- I love Savage and have no qualms about buying one.

So far I am the only person to have a bad experience with a savage. I thik it was a model 16 or 116, anyway it was a 22-250 and it would not hold a group. I tried 3 scopes, 20 different rounds including hand rounds reccommended for that gun. I had at least 4-5 people shoot it for me. It was a lemon. Savage would not even consider taking a look at it after I owned it for a year. Finally got rid of it. :dunno:

Sold a model 10 243 because I did not need it but was great.
Working on a custom Savage next.

I've had a few Savages. Started with Model 11 243, then a model 110 30-06, and the a Model 110 300 Win Mag. They all shot under 1 MOA, but got traded for other guns. I got back into them about 2 years ago with an LRPV in 22-250. This is the model with a right bolt, left ejection port and the target trigger. This gun shoots teeny tiny little groups in the .2s for 5 shots at 100yds all day long in the right hands. I liked it so much that I bought the same gun in 223. When I got bored with that I swapped the 223 barrel and put a Pac-Nor 300 WSM barrel on there. Now I'm looking for another action to start a project where I'm going to have one barrel in every bore diameter from 22 up to 470.
You have to love the Savage if you like to tinker with your own guns. They make it so easy.

Add a Model 16 in 204 Ruger to that list. I just picked it up today while I was out. :tup:
I haven't shot it yet, but I bet it will be a good shooter just like the rest of them.

I have a couple savage rifles and one handgun, they are all nice shooters for the money. The only problem I had with a Savage was the weather warrior model I bought last fall, the composite stock was so cheap (the injection molded type) it made the recoil of the 7mm rem mag loads totally harsh and unnecessary. Savage makes a quality rifle for a cheap price but I'm less than impressed with their composite stocks very very cheap IMHO. I own a savage striker pistol in 22-250 and its a great handgun! The rest of my Savage rifles are used for Varmint/target shooting so they all have laminated beavertail stocks and are extremely accurate and nice looking. I sold the weather warrior and got a Stainless Browning BLR in 7mm rem mag and I'm very pleased with the new purchase. :twocents: Just wanted to say I'm not a recoil sensitive guy I'm 6'6" and go around 280lbs and have rifles ranging from 338 to 204 ruger but the kick of the 7mm mag in that rifle was totally unnecessary if it had a walnut stock on it or maybe a composite of higher quality the recoil would have been fine I think.

i knew one guy who had a "bad experience" with savage customer service on an unusual problem he had with his but other than that waStick that is the only one i have heard of.
i had a savage 110 30.06 pre accutrigger that i liked
bought the wife a stevens 200 in 7mm08 that she loves
i just bought a stevens 200 in .308 for me.

i got a bunch of savage's. my favorite of all is a 7mm-08 with the accutrigger. It has the comparability to all calibers.
It shoots at a high fps and has a lot of force behind the bullet. I hunt with it for deer, elk, bear, cougar, and if i got drawn for anything special i would probably go for it. i am going to get another savage in a 7mm aand a 30-06. i likes the savage but make sure it has accu trigger

I believe you can, but I could easily be wrong. I'm not even sure you can buy an Accutrigger unless it's a take off that somebody is selling.
A much as I like the Accutriger, I'd be happy with any of the quality after market triggers.

You can, but there is extra machining involved. Easier, and probably, plus you will get better results, if you go with the SSS drop in.

I agree that savage makes terrible synthetic stocks. However, when you pay under 700 for a Savage action, with the accutrigger, and all stainless, they have to scrimp somewhere.

I adjusted the factory trigger on my Stevens 200 (in .223) after reading the attached article...

Took about a minute to get it down to the 3.5 lb range with no creep. Very pleased with the results (now, I've gotta get one in .243! :drool:)... shooting 1 moa or better with the barrel barley broken in. My father adjusted the triggers on his two Stevens (.223 and .25-06) with the same great results.
