I shot my doe this year at 244 yards with my 260 and recovered the bullet for you reloading nerds. The shot was quartering away and the bullet did pass completely through burrying itself in a bank on the off side. The only bones hit were ribs, it absolutely blew up the heart on the way through. The deer ran 30 yards or so and piled up. Bloodshot was minimal which always pleases me. This bullet also worked really well on the antelope. It didn't blow up the guts like "softer" bullets do. and anybody who has shot an antelope knows that its pretty hard to miss the guts on those smelly SOB's. Anyways, here's the pics and specifics in case your interested.
6.5 mm, 130 grain Accubond fired at 2800 fps (chrono'd)
89.1 grns retained

can't go wrong with nosler :IBCOOL: looks like ti sure did its job :IBCOOL:
-
All the accubonds we have used put small entrance and exit holes with hardly a blood trail. Not saying they dont work but I prefer the partition. I swear that the ENTRANCE hole on both our bears looked about 3" wide! :twocents:

Yeah it's a give and take. I just don't like all the bloodshot from the partition I seem to get. I still use it in some of my guns. Actually I had an AWESOME blood trail from this deer but where we hunt deer we don't really need a blood trail since it's so wide open.

That's a good point, but for me I like all the damage partitions do. In the rainforests on the westside tracking can sometimes get a little tricky. :P
I have a question though, why doesnt nosler put a boattail on partitions?
-
Do you have any way to weigh it so you can determine the amount of weight retention? You may want to soak it in some kind of solvent first as there is still some dirt on it, but I am curious to know because I am seriously considering changing my bullets for Wyoming Elk next year.

Oops thought I posted it. It was 89.1 grns. Not gonna clean it though. Too lazy for that. :chuckle:
Lower retained weight than I expected but this load has taken 2 Antelope, a bear, and 2 deer this year and I've been very impressed.

I love the accubonds! I shoot a 140 from my 270win. The buck I got Saturday I shot from 274 yards, took out the heart and the right lung and right shoulder. The bullet entered just in front of his left shoulder. He ran close to 100 yards before going down. Never had one run that far using this combo. But, he is down and did not make it to the bottom of the canyon, fell just over the edge! Congrats on your deer!

Thanks for the weight. Wow only 68.54% weight retention. I wonder if their statistic was done in ballistic gelatin! Don't they claim like 85% or something like that? Do you have any experience with other bullets out of the same gun?

I've used partions but no recoveries. Great performance. My daughters deer last year too 100 grn partition from a 260. It broke both shoulders and passed completely through at ....I think..... 170 yards.
I used 125 grn partitins on my deer last year with no recoveries. My shooting wasn't the greatest last year though so can't really give any good info.
I too am surprised about the weight loss but happy with the penetration and performance. Maybe I'll recover more later.

Cool I have really been thinking about the partitions. But I can not afford to go out and buy all kinds of bullets to test. So any info is good info in my opinion. Thanks again.

Partitions are accurate in every caliber I've tried them. They are really great bullets. I wanted to use the Accubond this year mainly for my Wyoming trip as I knew I may get into some longer shots. I found an accurate load and thats where I'm gonna leave it. This bullet for the 260 is just about perfect.
I did however witness the difference between the accubond and the B-tip out of a 260 on Antelope. When you hit a Lope with a B-tip it DROPS!!!! Freaking awesome but if you hit bone it's like a bomb went off.

Nope.
The Partitions are designed to retain 2/3 of their weight. This bullet performed EXACTLY as advertised. :brew:

But this is an Accubond. We got off topic and started babbliing about the partition. This bullet is an accubond

All of the accubonds that I have recovered from deer look almost identical to that, this is from my 270 with 140 gr bullets too. I think they are a decent bullet, they don't shoot that great in my rifle, about 1.25" groups, but it will get the job done.
-
I just checked on their site and they claim 60-70% weight retention. I think it was a few years ago that I saw the 85% claim.

Thats where the Partition popped into my head. :P
The Accubond is designed to retain 60-70%,so the bullet still perfromed exactly like it was supposed to.
-
Interesting. I would have thought it would have retained more but like I said it's blown right through everything I've shot with it this year and i've been impressed.
you were right on.
From Nosler
Nosler’s proprietary bonding process eliminates all possibility of component separation resulting in 60-70% weight retention.

recovered the bullet for you reloading nerds.
What's with the name calling? That kind of hurt.... :'(

I think I may have to try the partitions. Maybe if I start know I can test a few before next October.

Have you shot any elk sized critters with that rig? I thought about rebarreling my 7-08 to 260.
-
No. I've shot 1 bear, 2 deer, and 2 Antelope with the 260. My daughters have shot 4 deer with the 260. It's just a wrecking ball. I would not hesitate to shoot an elk at 300 yards or less with it. I absolutely love the 260 for it's hitting power, penetration, and lack of recoil. It's awesome.
-
What range would you limit yourself on deer?
-
Well if I thought I could hit the deer I'd take the shot but my personal max range would be about 400 yards whether I was shooting a 260 or a 30-06. I wouldn't worry that the bullet would do the job I'd worry that I'd make the shot. 330 or closer and it's as good as dead though.

here is my 2009 nosler 150gr partition shot from my 270win
