Saw this guy today. First time I have seen a black on before. How many people here have seen them? I am going to go out and try and call him in a few weeks after things settle down.

i see them every now and again on the east side, never seen one on the west side. kinda weird lookin, not sure if there always 100% yote and got some domestic dog in em
-
That looks like someones German Shepherd. I have never seen one in person. Have seen pics of dead ones though.
-
My first thought was German Shepard as he was in field with some cows. They started to chase him out of there field and there was no farmer any were around. He had been running for a LONG time. I am guessing he has been shot at a lot this past week. He stopped just long enough to get this picture and then he was off. He ran under that fence and straight up that hill behind him. I would guess 1500 feet to the top.

That looks very much like a German sheperd to me.

Way to big to be a coyote, really looks like a black shepherd to me
-
His head and ears are way to big to be a coyote. Too squarish of a face and his ears look too big. He looks out of purportion. His tail also looks the same way. :twocents:
-
check his turds.. if its full of hair and or apples shoot it because its most likely a wild dog or crossbreed. but maybe try checking missing dog posters and calling him like you would a normal dog first.

Thats a dog. Coyotes tails hang straight. No curl. It's also too tall, chest waaaayyyyy to big, legs too long. ears too big. Its a doggy.
-
Is that a Black Shepard or a Bobcat :P
-
Dont shoot! not a yote. Waist too small, chest too big and all the other points people have made.
-
Definitely NOT a coyote. I have had a couple black coyotes in my shop.
-
lol, thats a Dog.
-
Chupacabra? :dunno:
-
It must be a wild dog because there has been a few people in the area that have seen this animal running with a pack of coyotes. So it could be a wild dog. They way it was acting and running sure looked like a coyote to me.

Not a coyote. I drew down on what I thought was a coyote in the last big winter we had. It was snowing REALLY HARD sideways, but when I had him all lined up (425 out), I pulled off. Something wasn't right. His ears were just a little too pointy, and his tail wasn't held quite right. Glad I did, I headed down to him, and as i got closer, I realized he had a leather collar on. I whistled him in and did some investigation and got him back to his house. German Shephard. I'd have felt horrible if I'd off'd him.
P.S. German Shephard owners... keep your dogs inside during snowstorms in the cattle country of the Palouse. I had taken up about 8 of the 10 ounces my trigger needed to send Sparky to the big doghouse in the sky.

Hi, Did a little image adjusting on your picture and looks like a German Shepard. But could be a wild/feral one based on its actions. Hope this helps.
-
also the yotes are not "packing up" yet this yea anyhow. so i dont know if they are talking about another year which could be another dog, does not look like a yote
-
Definately a black german shepard. good looking dog, I have always wanted one of them
-
def NOT a purebred coyote. Might have a little in him. Interesting. I have seen two black coyotes. One a couple years in a row by my house. Smart bugger as he managed to not get killed.
-
WOLF!!!!!!

I hunted the same black coyote three winters in a row, smartest dang animal I have ever went up against. He would hide under fence corners (that were dark railroad ties) as he blended in. And while his two counterparts would lay out in the open on the snow, he ALWAYS laid up on a dark rock. Spotted him several times on public land over three years and while I could have killed his packmates, the closest shot I ever got would have been around 750 yards. I have killed dogs out to 600, but wasn't willing to push him out of the area, too rare of a trophy, in my book. Didn't see him last February, hope he's still around, although I doubt it.
