Hunting this weekend at about 4000-4500 on wet-side
-
No wonder they are rutting early
-
Alder Ridge weather station was showing 34 deg earlier with gusts over 55 mph. Hopefully this evening the clouds will be high enough that I can see the Blues on the way home, it was dark on the way to work this morning.
-
:bash: man i hope my tent lives through it. 55mph is not good for the home team
-
We had a big rip here in the Wenas. I was guessing 50 mph winds. Its done now.
-

We had to come out of Idaho early because of threatening snow. NOAA was calling for six to twelve inches and we didn't want to dig our way out, so we called it.

snow level was about 4000 ft. on the 26 & 25 rd this weekend. Just the tops of the highest peaks got a skiff of snow.
-
No fair!!! >:( Here was my view from the middle of the state Saturday morning, no snow as far up the hill as I could see.....
-
Wow Ice, that is one gorgeous picture. You need to frame that one! John
-
Awesome picture Ice! However, I've seen the middle of the state, and I don't think it's quite that steep....????

i heard at my meeting tonight (monday) that up at Godman there was about 11".
that might just take the camping out of my game, i may have to just drive up to where i hunt everyday.
6 days camping in the snow by myself wont be a good idea, and it would be pretty hard to get rewarm in a small 8x8 tent.
-
just talked to a guy that has a camp above godman a little bit. road is drifted closed coming in from the bluewood side, about 18" at twin buttes. sounds like a mess to me. can only get to godman from the eckler mt side. me thinks winter is here
-
Be carefull up there.
-
i am thinking about making a run up tonight, not that it will do me any good. there is no way i can get all the stuff out with one truck :bash: man i hope it warms up a little
-
road is open as of tonight(tuesday) i opened it from the bluewood side almost to godman, saw a friend of mine that came up from ekler side and said the road was open. But on the way out alot of my trackes were getting drifted over and its snowing a ton.
ill try to post some pics.
snow report---about 18" above Godman and Bluewood had a good 6" when i went by.
Just a warning TAKE tire chains, shovel, recovery equipment. if you have a stock rig its going to be kinda hard to get around till the roads get beat down. Plan on 2x as long to get to your normal spot, there will be people stuck all over the place, tonight i pulled out 2 guys and thats a tuesday night. Anyway just saying be more prepaired, i get eritated pulling people out that look like they belong in cali, but i will do it.
-
I'm really not in the mood for this YET :chuckle:
-
I used to pray for snow years ago for elk season. Now I pray it doesn't snow. I'd take rain any day over that crap. If it would snow an inch or two every night, that may be ok, but a big dump followed by a clear off and subsequent freeze makes it all but impossible to walk quietly. Like walking on corn flakes with amplifiers on each boot.
-
yea im not sure how to hunt elk in this, this kinda changes things
-
I AM READY! BRING IT ON MORE SNOW PLEASE!!!!!!! :IBCOOL:
Mulehunter :)
-
40 inches now!? I sure wish I had a peaches ridge bull tag this year.
-
Sweet snow. 1-2 feet forcasted this weekend for cascades. That's not good news for the westsiders that are coming over Chinook as it might not open again this year. there is 40 inches up there now.
Have you been up there? Almost four feet seems like quit a bit compared to other reports. Of course it does get kinda crazy up there, thank goodness for snoqualmie pass.
-
Hmm, maybe I should have put up more than 3 cord this year. Now am nervous and wearing a coat in the house this morning instead building a fire, its only end of October for gods sake! Come on Global Warming, Climate Change, Climate disruption or whatever the flavor of the year is!
That being said, this snow should have the migrations moving if this weather holds. Seems like winter comes early anymore.

reading animal behavior, we are in for a doozy this year.
-
Kinda glad I don't have a one man tent pitched up there. :)

I agree, I have been watching the animals and they have been acting like winter is coming a lot earlier this year. Deer were putting on there winter coats, squirells went into overdrive early etc etc. I should have made a couple trips over to the eastside to get some extra firewood this year. Thats the problem with the wetside, if you don't cut enough early in the year your screwed later.
They are talking about rain up high this weekend, if that happens with this snow we could be looking at some flooding over here on the wet.

anybody been into the manashtash 340 area on top to see if there is any snow, im ready to sling some lead, just haven't seen any elk during deer season. So hopefully it's white
-
After reading this post, I found myself wandering around the house like I was lost. I then realized how bad I wished I was elk hunting this coming week. This is the bad part of hunting in the muzzy season, we usually get hot weather and not the snow. I miss hunting in late october. I look forward to reading all your story's and seeing your pictures posted. Good Luck to all you going elk hunting and be safe.
-
Yep... it's here!
-
Looking out my back door, The Colockum has snow, the very top is white! I hunt lower, maybe a few extra elk are down in my area, not just the resident elk? :whoo: Come on Saturday! Good luck to all!
-
Chinook and Cayuse were closed last night according to the sign on the east end of Enumclaw.
-
Upper Manastash is currently white.
-
Looks like its not going to be white for long, most of the forcasts are showing the snow level back up to 8000' by Wednesday. It looks like elk season is going to be a wet one.
