Well i just got back from a hunt that i thought was going to be bad. But it turned out to be good i missed a nice 3x3 or 2x2 o was not able to see for sure. But this was off ends trail on a Orange gate i don't know if i was able to be their so i wanted to find out again. What color gates mean what. it was orange with some yellow on it. i think i will go out that way again in tell i get told not to. their is no sign telling me no trust passing. Any one have any other places i should look into on Mason county? :twocents: :dunno: :dunno: :) :) :)

Suprised no one has bashed ya yet. First for not being sure what your shooting at and second for not knowing if you can hunt where you were. Having said that gate color means nothing, just gotta do a lil research and find out
-
I did now what i was shooting at but couldn't tell if it had a small tin off the front to be a 3x3. it was 50 yards out. and the gate's i just want to make sure because i'm in the navy so hunting in Washington is new that is why i signed up for this. so i can get help.
-
Ah well I didn't mean to seem like a dick its just most of the time people seem to go over board with it. It might help if people knew what part of mason and where the gate was though.
-
well as far as gate color.. umm not a big factor... making sure of your target and not tresspassing .... are crucial .. look on wdfw site for the go hunt maps and google maps .. to help ya on gmu and public land etc...

I live in mason what area were you in
-
where i was hunting was by the power lines off trails end road. so i live off sand hill road in Belfair. thanks for the help.
-
Your not in a bad area, after all your seeing Bucks. ;)
If you wanna change it up a bit and see some new area close to you head out sand hill till ya hit Bear Creek/Dewatto rd. Go left and head into Dewatto. Every were out in your area can yield a great Buck for sure. No need to head to the other side of the canal (trails end).
There is allot of area on that Dewatto Peninsula from your house across to Seabeck and everywhere in between.

I'm hoping this 2 x 2 had eyeguards because you shouldn't be shooting at a straight 2 x 2 without eyeguards b/c well that'd be illegal. If it did have eye guards for further sake of you getting bashed i wouldn't specify it as a 2 x 2 but a 3 x 3.

Spikes are legal where he was hunting.
-
just for info sakes yellow gates are typically weyerhauser timber co. and orange are Simpson timber co
-
Simpson is now Green Diamond, correct?

The orange gates with white or yellow stripes in that area usually belong to pope and talbet. The signs that say no shooting refer to target shooting because to many people can't pick up there shells when they are done. That hole sandhill area holds good deer just be propared to get wet. I like the old cut's with 10 to 15' trees in the rain. It's thick but if you hunt slow and glass alot you can see lots of deer. It's just hard to keep your glasses dry and fog free. Good luck.
P.S. I live in the seabeck area and have hunted out there before. Week day's with heavy rain means less hunters in the woods over here it's nice. I drove around with my daughter after our morning hunt to dry out so she could sleep, only saw one other rig out there.

Ah I thought it said Where in Manson (up by Chelan) not Mason.

Man i didn't know i was in a good area to hunt. i thought it was all dirt bikes and whatever up in this area. I was thinking of buying or using antlers to make the bucks come out but i don't know if they are still in the rut.

That is messed up i didnt know people would do that just like road hunting when you see a person hunting on the ground. i just thought it was meaning no hunting. so thanks.

WOW :)

Yeah like others have said.. There is good hunting all over the Dewatto area. You just need to hike in a ways and get away from the roads and other hunters. Find a gate that doesn't have 4 rigs parked at it and go for it.

Thank you for your service in the Navy and no offense but I honestly hope you are not the one writing the Nuclear manuals that operate our ships. :chuckle:

Yea im not the one writing Nuclear manuals. ;) So DNR gates are they ok to hunt at? Because i seen one pickup at one.
-
DNR are also fair game in that area. If you only found one rig at a gate your doing good I usually see 3 or 4.
-
I own property up the hill a little from where you are on sandhill closer to dewatto at a place called maggie lake. There is a suprising amount of deer up there if you get away from the roads. My family spends almost every weekend riding the DNR land behind our place in the summer, and we almost always see deer in the mornings. Havent hunted it much myself, but we will be up there for the late hunt as my daughter is the only one in the family that didnt fill her tag this last weekend east of the mountains. Just do as others have suggested, and check the wdfw map program to make sure you are not on any private land most of the deer we see are well in behind the gates up there so dont be afraid to put some miles on your boots.

Yea i have friends out that way on maggie lake. Yea i will have to try that tomorrow. evening. thanks and i will post what i see or get i hope.
