I have hunted modern firearm season in the hancock buckley gate by the rainier school and only seeing does and yearlings. Two people out of our group took spikes, I also know of a third spike being taken out this last sunday and word of a three point being taken out. I was just curious to what everyone else has seen or what luck others have had in the hancock property
-
If you are entering from the Buckley gate, you are on the Kapowsin side in the Mashel unit which is 2 point or better, only White River is spike or better. :bash: :bash: :bash:
-
i have hunted the hancock snoqualmie farm wednesday and yesterday, seen 1 spike and 2 button bucks. i have been limited to walking into a few areas. i did hear of a couple really nice bucks taken up by lake hancock by a couple people who own the cabins up there.
-
when you enter the buckley gate by the rainier school that property is 653 which is anybuck if you goin into the bridge gate which in known as the central gate or the kapowison gate by the office that is GMU 654 which is two point or better. The maps that hancock provides when you buy the pass also shows that the buckley gate property is GMU 653. So if you still disagree with that you may want to discuss it with hancock. Cause I have been hunting in there for 12 years and it has always been 653. More food for thought I have talked to many game wardens in there and they have also stated it is GMU 653. White river between hancock and wilkeson is what I believes splits the GMUs
-
This years version of the regs State the White River/ Kapowsin tree farm boundary is also the GMU boundary for 653/654. I'm not sure why Hancock would allow access to the WR tree farm with a Kapowsin permit, I hope you are right, but it sound's odd.
-
the kapowisin permit allows you to enter the two gates by kapowison the office gate and the bridge gate it also allows you to enter the buckley gate its been like that since hancock took over. I wanna say last year and maybe this year cant remeber off the top of my head but i think you were able to go in a gate in eatonville or north bend not a 100 percent on that one.
-

Looking at the regs and at the go hunt gmu maps it's the Carbon not the White.
653 White River is North of the Carbon River and Mt Rainier NP.
654 Mashel is South of the Carbon River and West of Mt Rainier NP.
-
I stand corrected. I wasnt sure what the rivers name was but I know where the boundaries are and which gmu is which. Thanks for the correction
-
There's also a big red sign on a tree just inside the Buckley gate that says you are in 653 White River GMU.
-
your right I totally forgot about that. And it is eatonville is the other gate that you can enter when you buy the kapowisin permit
-
now that we have that figured out, what about updates? pics? stories? besides the muckleshoots killing most of the deer and elk up there, there has to be some success stories, no need to give honey hole details but anything to get some guys' blood pumping and get amped for taking something? my neighbor and his brother took a deer and bear out of there during early archery, no pics but they were on the move and it was nice to see them put some meat in the freezer..
-
No kidding about the mucks ever since they got access to go through the property to "there" land I really havent seen many animals. Like I said before I have been in there for 12 years now and it wouldnt be uncommon to see at least a dozen animals a day.
-
We took two spikes out of the Snoqualmie Farm Sunday morning. We were out of there by 1030. Saw a total of 4 spikes total that morning. The deer were literally crawling all over the place Sunday likely because of the weather. The other days which had bluebird weather we saw just a couple does.
-
I spent all day Friday thru Sunday at Kapowsin. Saw about 10 does per day and a few spikes and small 2pts. I made a shot on a large 2pt Saturday Morning, but lost it :bash:. Spent all day looking and continued Sunday morning. Sunday afternoon came across this nice 2x3 and decided to take him.

I pulled my map and checked it out. The old Buckley farm, now part of Kapowsin is less than one mile behind the Ranier gate. Hancock needs to update their signage and their policy. It appears a portion of Kapowsin is actually in 653 and Hancock's literature says otherwise.
-
I think you need to recheck your mappage once more because you are obviously not understanding what is being stated. I dont know anything about the "old buckley farm" but I am talking about the property that is right behind the rainier school off ryan rd. which in no way shape or form is in the mashel unit. Then the Office gate and the bridge gate are 654 and are not even close to being in the 653 unit there is quite a bit of land that seperate the three pieces of property. As many people actually know the hancock properties that purchase the kapowisin permits. Either of the other kapowisin properties do not back up to the buckley property which is actually in 653. So before you get all excited and post something wrong check recheck and recheck again :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash:
-
Ok, Buckley is 653 and the central and south units are 654. Now has anybody shot anything.

Not exited here, trust me. I've been hunting and working on that land since the early '90's, thank you, I think I know it just fine. I'll restate what I said in simpler terms so maybe you understand. CURRENTLY, Hancock authorizes hunting in Kapowsin only by vehicle with a Kapowsin permit, per their written policy, Hancock also states Kapowsin is in Mashel GMU based on the old divisions which clearly need to be updated. This was no slam to your person, it actually supports what you were saying, take a valium.
-
yes the kapowison permit allows you onto kapowison property which is the mashel unit but with the kapowison permit you are allowed in the eatonville and the buckley gate. it is clearly stated when purchasing the permit so I think that the poilicies are stated just fine
-
+1..buying the kapowsin permit allows you to go into the two kapowsin gates plus the eatonville and buckley gates..and if you want to, you can buy a permit just for the eatonville gate for a lesser price.
-
hey donimator nice deer. got caught up in all the non sense in earlier posts. should be a good amount of meat
-
Yeah, it is a big bodied blackie. Around the 150lb mark after gutted. Was not so easy to load in my Geo Tracker by myself thats for sure. :yike: This deer is larger than my buddies small 3pt mulie he got opening weekend.
-
good deal thats better sized than any I have gotten I am definilty a meat hunter so that could explain alot just havent had the oppurtunity at a big one quite yet. were you in the bridge gate or the gate at the office. I havent been in either in such a long time do to all the comments of how damn people are in there. I am not a fan of all the traffic but since the mucks bought 7000 acres from the buckley property it almost feels like hunting in a damn tuna can with all the road hunters
-
I went in kapowsin and eatonville gates nothing but does .maybe late buck will be better my son has taken two nice bucks out in the last 2 years . maybe its my year.
-
I hunted in kapowsin south, and central for several years the escapement areas that hancock is establising are a nice change. To those of you who havent been up there in a few years much of the lower main road systems in south especially are now gated walk in only. This has really cut down on how many hunters you see as it seems most of the people in the tree farm are road hunters. My advice is buy a good mountain bike find a gate and start peddling I tagged out the last two years I hunted up there by doing just that. As for those of you that think sitting in your truck shooting deer in the clearcuts is hunting I have no advice for you since our idea of what hunting is seems to be quite different.
-
I took this week off to hunt and after 3 days shot this 2x3 in the bridge gate. I gave my son first shot but all he could see was his head. He shot free hand and because his gun is 3 inchs high at a 100 yards shot over. The buck jumped to go down a bank and when he did I dumped him like a box of rocks... We have been in with the does as close as 10 yards at some points but the bucks are not in with them yet. We have seen several buck but they were all by them selves. We put on at least 10 to 15 miles a day on foot. If you don't go to them they will not come to you... JAMNG
-
My son took this 4x4 3 1/2 miles behind a Hancock gate on opening day.
-
I have a honey hole in Fall city if you don't end up getting one. I have moved so I wont ever be hunting it again
-
man those are two very good looking deer. I have only seen deer the same quality of that 4x4 like 5 years ago and nothing since my dad took one out of the buckley gate I think three years ago well congrats to both of you. I have tomorrow off and goin to hunt friday through sunday hopefully these next few days will be much better than the last two weekends. Good luck to all that are still hunting
-
nice bucks..to the guy road hunting just at dark with your lights off, smarten up blue chev shortbed with canopy.
-

didnt see any glasses but yeah on the rest.when he seen me he kept on past me as I was walking to my truck.he waited on top for me to leave but I waited so I could get a plate number,in case..
-
That sounds like him, last year he was with another white-haired drunk also in a ball cap. >:(. I'm still angry about it, if you get the opportunity turn them in, they tried to run me off my deer last year after I downed it. I didn't get the plate last year but they had a Kapowsin permit and a canopy.
-
Sounds familiar to me as well. This truck like to hang around the lower Eatonville crossover gate area by any chance?

YES! I ran into them only about two miles from there.

I cant hardly walk today,I will pass it on to Clyde tomarrow if I see him.I had a run in with two drunks one morning a few yrs back..
-
Every time I see them they are roadhunting the same loop running it like a nascar track back and forth, changing directions. always in the evening. 1611-1615 roads. Always seemed fishy like they were penning in elk rather than road hunting deer in a way. I like to walk thru the timber and clearcuts to meet my wife where she parks and hunts. last year I would see this truck every time i got to a road it seemed. Didn't see them when I got my buck the other day. 14 inch wide 2 point in the timber like every buck I have seen out there this year. every doe too really

No other angle's on the 4 point. After we got home and looked at the pictures I was real disappointed in myself for not thinking of composition as I was snapping photo's. I was more excited I think than my son was. We are in the process of doing a skull mount of him. I do believe that I'll spend the rest of my life trying to out do my son now, lol :chuckle:

Great buck Wazukie! Which general area of Hancock did you kill him in? That is just about as big as they get in there!
-
hancock is also in klickitat county, pretty sure thats where his boy shot that dandy buck, great job.

-
Sorry wazukie, seems as though I screwed up your plan. :P :P
-
I really had no plan, He took it behind a "Hancock gate". It was actually in Yakima county that this deer was taken. Hancock does have land in Klickitat and Skamania counties too.
-
I'm going to live the rest of my days trying to beat my boys Buck he shot last year out of the Bridge gate..
-
Thats a nice buck! We'll all live trying to beat that one
-
Wow Jam that has to be the widest blacktail I have seen come out of the Kapowsin tree farm big congrats to your boy hope he is a shoulder mount somewhere in your home.
-
Seriously, what a monster, I've only seen one other blacktail that wide from the Satsop and it was in the top all-time in the State book.
-
I TOOK A NICE 2 POINT OUT OF THE KAPOWSIN AREA ON SATURDAY MORNING THAT WAS REALLY THE ONLY DAY THAT THE WEATHER WAS GOOD. CAMPED AT LAKEVIEW RESORT.WENT UP 5 DAYS SEEN QUITE A FEW DOE AND A COUPLE OF ELK THE REST OF THE TIME
-
Another person in my hunting group took a 3x3 out of the Snoqualmie Farm yesterday. So for us its been two spikes and one 3x3 this year in the Snoqualmie.
-
So after spending three hours in the central property this morning I meandered into the buckley gate and in a matter of 10 minutes of being in the gate I harvested a spike. Glad that I have my animal for the year. But what blew my mind was for the three hours in the central saw 25 rigs forgot how packed that place gets.

Congrats to your son
