Only got 1 rooster and 2 ducks for 2 days of hard working... That and i thinkmy 11moth old chessie needs a little more experience. :chuckle: did have some hens kick up for us but that don't help...

Post by: PaulM on October 26, 2010, 10:00:31 PM: Did well on phesants 2 birds in 4 hours then switched to ducks and did not see a single one flying. Trying out new areas- was great but fell asleep in the duck blind under clear blue skies. 8) finished with three quail on the way to the truck. My 8 year old shorthair cut his ear on barbed wire 5 minutes before hunting hours 50 feet from the truck. Worked the 2 year old shorthair alone and he did great. He pinned down some tight tight points. Love the new Federal Prairie Storm shells.

This was the trip I took down to Mountain home,Idaho.It would have helped abunch had they cut the corn and other crops..The rain we got did help on Saturday.The birds held a lot tighter.

this time i take most of the fault they went on point me and my partner got into shooting position told them to get it( just assumed they were pointing a bird) the rest is history

Post by: Boom Stick on October 28, 2010, 09:39:06 AM: I'm glad to hear a couple people got into the birds. We had five people and four dogs. Hunted all day in the Lower Valley and got a total of 1 Rooster. We might have seen three all day.

Post by: wsucowboy on October 28, 2010, 10:20:50 AM: Good looking birds. Congrats to all the successful hunters. I didn't pheasant hunt this year, but i heard a ton and saw 13 roosters when i was out deer hunting.

Post by: penhuntsbirds on October 30, 2010, 11:22:09 PM: Hope those pup are OK now. My dog is on the IR right now cause she scrached the hell out of her eye opening weekend. We hunted hard for two days and put up over 10 hens (8 in one field) and only 5 roosters and we only shot at four and got two. It was still awesome.

Post by: PaulM on November 01, 2010, 06:20:17 AM: Its not the opener any more but we did well again. I had my 8 year old shorthair on injured reserve( cut ear-see previous post-opener). This was good for my 2 year old shorthair because the younger ones need to learn on their own. We shot our limit of pheasant and finally hit one of those fighter-jet flying snipes. Love the prairie storm shells. I hit and killed a pheasant at 40+ yards. On my last bird the rooster was soooo dead. He decided it would be a good idea to cackle 50 yards in front of us. :bdid: for him!

Post by: freberd on November 04, 2010, 06:58:54 AM: we were at crab creek and our lab ran into porcupine also. Never had any problems before there. We hadnt gotten any birds up and my husband told him to fetch it up we thought he had an inujured bird.

I hope we both were able to get all the quills out.
