Hopefully soon to be replaced with a 300WINMAG Savage Long Range Hunter with same scope, but with a 30MOA base and same bi-pod.

I don't think anyone should laugh at a Savage, they make some very accurate, but cheap rifles.

My best shooting is my Kimber LRV Model 84 in 22-250. 26" fluted SS barrel with 20X Leupold.

Favorite is M-721 Remington .270 that my Grandpa bought new in '48. He built a custom Maple stock for it in '86 and my Dad cleaned it up and re-blued it a couple years back and gave it to me. I topped it with a 4.5-14 Leupold. It has killed almost every big game animal in North America. MD, BT, WT, elk, goats, sheep, moose, bears... I wish it could talk.

Laugh? Now way. In all honesty, Savage has become my preferred manufacturer over the last couple years. In the process of building a switch - barrrel rig now. I'll be able to shoot a light recoiling 250 savage or a 338/06 all with just a 20 minute barrel change. Love my Savages!

My new goto would have to be my new T/C Venture .270

Love the thing, but the weather has me feeling weary about bringing it out into the field... not stopping me though, just alot of 2nd guessing

My most Special rifle is the Savage 219. Single shot 30-30, 26in barell. I also have a Model 220 barell, it's a 28in 20ga that snaps on. The fit of steel to wood of the receiver is seamless, like one molded piece. The 30-30 barell looks like it belongs on Ma Deuce, 3.5lbs, wall thickness of 3/8-7/16ths...

What makes it so special? Grandpa bought it when Dad was off in the South Pacific during WWII. When Dad got back it went on countless Elk and Deer trips, Grandpa got his game all the time. It stayed at Grandpas till he could no longer live alone. Dad made sure he got it before his brother found it. It's in my bedroom now on display.

Post by: jackelope on October 28, 2010, 02:32:49 PM: A year or so ago I picked up a T/C Encore with the 300 win mag heavy barrel and a .22-250 heavy barrel. I frickin love that thing. Since I got it I had a Defensive Edge brake installed on the 300 barrel, I got the Bellm TC's hinge pin, their hammer spring and hammer extender, their trigger springs and got some other little nick-nack stuff done to it. It's got a Talley 1 piece lightweight mount with a Vortex Diamondback 4-12x scope on her....It shoots bugholes and I can watch the bullets hit. No recoil. Next upgrade will be glass when $$ allow.

Barnes TSX, Nosler Accubonds and Partitions are all in the running for the replacement bullet.

But I would have to say I like my Remington 700 BDL in a 243 win with the 24" barrel and the Leupold 3.5 - 10 x 50 VX-L! Hand loaded some 55 gr nosler ballistic tips and they are shooting 4150 fps! Not quite fast enough IMO.. :chuckle: Sweet gun and easy to shoot! Coyotes don't really stand a chance..

Second one is my varmint rifle Winchester model 70 .243 Heavy flutted barrel, H&S Precision stock and Jewel trigger topped with Leupold VX3 4.5-14X50. Shooting 55gr Nosler Balistic tips with H380.

Topped with Meopta MeoStar R1 3-12x56 Illuminated 4c reticle with a prototype 1 piece steel meopta mount.
Spitting out 196grn NORMA VULKANS.
tweeked trigger. Crisp regular and super sweet set trigger.

Killed about 20 animals with it in the year that I've oned it. The last 7 or 8 with the norma's. Nothing has gone more than 5 steps with the norma's.

hang on a sec, I want to make sure my animal estimate is right standby.....

Was looking at 1 yesterday just like it and had it not been so close to xmas, I would have found a way to sneak it in the house, didn't think it was a good time to dip into the cookie jar. ;)
