After passing on a spike last Sat. and a 2x2 on Tues. I shot this 5x4 this morning (Sat.) My son and I were walking down this road at first light and something told me that we should be in a different area. We jumped back in the truck went down the road a few miles and saw this buck just walking through the thick brush about fifty yards off the road. i jumped out of the truck, made about a twenty yard stalk and put my sons 243 Savage on the deers' neck and he went straight down. We had no idea it was this big until we walked up to it. High fives and hugs followed. This is one day my son and I will never forget. Off to the meat shop and then the taxi.

excellent deer, I see you still did not get that window fixed from Elk Hunting.. Did you do any good in the other spot?
-
What an awesome blacktail, he's a hog, way to go!!!!
-
Just haven't got around to fixing it yet. I didn't see any more elk the whole time i was there. Going to try a few days late season.
-
Nice buck, did your son have a tag? You said you used his gun so you shoulda let him shoot if he did. That'd be priceless.
-
That's a beautiful buck. I finally got my first blacktail buck this morning about 9:30 :IBCOOL:, he was rutting hard. Now if I could just figure out those darn elk.
-
He doesn't have a tag. Still needs to go through hunters ed. I bought that 243 savage last year for his B-day. His mom says he's not ready yet. I disagreed but she won. Only the third time that gun was shot. If he would of had a tag we both would have had a nice buck. We saw a bigger one while heading home about a hundred yards from this one.
