granted its been close to ten years since I have hunted the skagit bay area, and I haven't traveled far this season; so I might have missed something... but where are all the widgeon? I have been seeing and obscene amount of greenwings, a good amount of pintails but so far no close encounters of the widgeon kind. :dunno:
-
I don't know about the Skagit but for me, we usually see our widgeon later on in the season. Like I said though, that might be location dependant. :dunno:
-
That is a good question, I havn't seen many either, and last year we had a ton of them.
-
I have been knocking the crap out of them
-
most of the time we get them later here to.
-
Tons of them on the crap ponds between Everett and Marysville. I see them as I drive by on I-5.
-
I have seen a few.. mostly pintail and teal though...
-
Been shooting a bunch of them in the last week. You may have to consider the food sources or where your hunting. Head a little further north and you will find them. :twocents:

We've been seeing so many widgeon we started passing on them the last couple weekends. Shot all mallards and pins yesterday, and all mallards the hunt before that. I don't think widgeon taste as good as mallards myself.
-
Very true. We had to sit and watch hundreds of pintails tonight. We limited out on our pins and watched flight after flight dropping into our decoys. I was picking out the widgeon and the few mallards that came in as well. Finally starting to get some better looking drake pintails as well.

i was seeing quite a few up in bellingham the last time i went out, still mostly teal and pins though
-
Saw a few around snohomish yesterday evening.

I daydream all summer about day's during the season when the weather blows up like it did yesterday. Go figure it was a Monday and I couldn't get away. :bash: It must have been absolutely awesome. Even after your limit of Pin's there is something magical about watching waves of birds come into the spread!!!! Were you on the flats or hunting ponds?

Hunting a damp spot in a field. We saw quite a few ducks flying around. We tried some of our shells and full body duck decoys. We got a few, then we threw out the wind ducks that everyone hates. We put out 15 wind ducks and we were sucking down some large flocks. They would hover over the decoys trying to figure out how to land. I should have shot video of it. It was pretty wild. We limited out in 2 hours, so it wasn't to bad.
The only reason we gave the wind ducks ago is the birds were going into another area that we couldn't set up in, so we decided to pull them over to our location.

On days like that I would prefer not to limit to fast anyway. Just kick back and enjoy the moment. Congrates on a great hunt. At least someone was able to take advantage of a perfect day!!!Just bummed I couldn't make it out. :'(
