looking for any info on these two scopes before i pull the trigger on one. any problems with the buckmaster from nikon. i like burris and leupold as that is what i have just thought about trying a different scope. the nikon is a little cheaper. not much into the bdc. does it work as they say or is it a waste of time. thanks

I'd go with the Leupold. I own two Leupold VX-2's (love them), one Nikon Monarch (great scope), one Simmons Aetech (been a fine scope), and one Burris Fullfield (POS, been repaired twice, never buy another). Leupold has a great warranty, great product, fairly priced, and they're just down the road.

I've had both and liked the Leupold better for clarity and light.

i own a buckmaster in 4.5-14x40SF (i know you asked for 3-9) with the BDC, good scope no problems and very clear, i also really like that the wind/elev. can be adjusted with my fingers, would highly reccomend. as for the BDC it works, if and only if you put in the range time to see exactly where each of the circles works especially if you are like me and sight in a tad high at 100yds.
a buddy has a varix 2 on one of his rifles that ive shot, and the luepy is very comparable for me it all boiled down to personal preference

Love my VXII's. But I have Nikon Buckmasters mounted on both of my sons rifles. I'll have to say.. They've taken a beating and still hold zero. Bright (within that class of glass) too.

I have quite a few Leupold scope, VX-II's and III's. Love them all, but when I recently purchased a 7mm-08 I had heard very good things about Nikons and decided to give one a try. Mounted up a Buckmaster 3x9 with the BDC reticle. At least in the store, the clarity and brightness of the Buckmasters optics was very comparable to the Leupy VX II, imho. So far out at the Mica range the little circles have worked pretty succesfully, but yes, you need to put the time into them and build a cheat sheet to tape to your stock. Once you have done that they work really well. This gun/scope combo will see it's first nasty weather duty this weekend in N. Idaho, so will post more about it's weather effectiveness next week.

Not a BDC but a buckmaster 3x9x40 had it 2 years now on the old 30-06 and love the clarity

i've been looking through a 4.5 by 14 buckmaster for three years now. I hit the brush hard and put a beating on it. For the money its a good scope.

Without knocking Nikon, nobody will ever take care of you better than Leupold.

Leupold. Just got my wife a VXIII 3.5x10x40. It is our first VXIII, we always just but a 3x9x40 vxII, but my wife wanted something cooler/different! :chuckle:
