Today we had 2 hours to get out hunting in the morning. We saw lots of geese heading south. And a little improvement on the local duck numbers. We landed up with 5 mallards, 6 teal, 1 pinny, and our first and probably last wetside woody of the year.
Over all we had a good hunt, the birds worked great. If only geese were open right now, we would have had a hell of a day.

I tie flys regualry, and have always purchased my feathers, or taken them directly from chickens. For ducks is there any way to clean the feathers or are they safe from the get go?
-
Safe from the get go as far as I know.
-
Thanks, now I have something else to look forward to for the hunt!
-
skin them out, remove as much of the fat as you can and all of the meat, then give it a good wash with some dawn soap to make sure the feathers are clean and the grease is gone, then blowdry and salt.
-
thanks for the help on that! Cant wait to give it a shot :chuckle: Almost got a coot today, i bet they got some nice feathers as well.
