Whidbey Bowmens club will be hosting 5 3D shoots this year, the first 3 which are January through March are on this flyer. For those of you who have attended our shoots you know how much fun our course is, come on out and enjoy our 32 3D targets. We are 95% rhinehart targets now and by March hope to 100% as we will be ordering even more at the ATA show. There is camping available (free) but no hookups. Breakfast and lunch will be available for all of our shoots. Saturdays are always a casual start 8AM to 2PM and Sunday will be shotgun start at 9AM. Hope to see many of you at the shoots this year. For those of you who are interested the WSAA has posted the 2011 shoot Calendar and the pocket calendar which that one is available here...

Wish I lived closer!!!

Thanks for the info NWW. I have enough arrows for my longbow now (maybe I better order another couple dozen the way I shoot). Whats the location of the shoots?
I've been practicing all year (but noth enough) my skill level was not up to hunting with the stick this year, hopefully if I shoot the 3d's this year I will be up to snuff for the 2011 season with the stick.
I found this year that shooting a longbow is not like riding a bike, you can forget! 20 years of shooting training wheels really lays on the rust for something you used to be able to do.

ok I stand corrected that's not the buckle shoot I was thinking. That is a new buckle shoot to me
-
i dont know if im more pumped for 3-d season or late season! :D what exactly is this buckle shoot? i cant really find any info on it.
-
I believe you have to participate in all three buckle shoots to qualify to win a buckle. Your scores from all 3 shoots are totaled together and if you shoot the best you win a buckle.
FYI... There is an additional cost if you wish to compete for a buckle.
-
What is the cost and do you have to pay at each of the 3 events?
-
ALright here is some clarification... the buckleshoot listed on this flyer is the one that has been around for the last 6 years. To qualify you pay extra (1 time fee) to be in the buckle shoot, it is the combined scores from Sunday of the 3 shoots listed on the flyer. The winner of each division is awarded a brass buckle.
THere is a new buckle shoot which is not on this particular flyer. That shoot is a combination of the 3 shoots at WHidbey in July, KBH archers in late July and Wapiti in August. Same format, SUnday scores from all 3 shoots.
Now the individual shoots are above and beyond the Buckle, each individual shoot is $10 a day, if you have a large family you max out at $43.
Whidbey Bowmens club can be found here (map attached):

hey NWWA. im getting into trad. any bows for sale?
-
Thanks for clearing that up. Can't wait until January for 3-D shoots. I looked at the schedule and there isn't many weekends I wont be shooting somewhere. I'm going to try really hard to shoot the IBO shoots this year
-
Thanks for the extra info and map NWW. If I pay $20 instead of $10 can I shoot double the arrows? I'm just trying to avoid last place! :chuckle:

LOL Now that is the spirit! Who cares about the score anyway... come out and have fun. That is whats great about 3D at the club level... its more about having fun and enjoying the day with friends.
Let-it-fly..... I may have a few bows for sale if you are interested. Depends what you are looking for. Sucks for me is I tore a deltoid muscle and am not sure when I will be shooting again.... :bash: At least it was the left shoulder, so hopefully it won't be to long a recovery, I am already cheating shooting a 32# bow for indoors. Just not ready for any 3D yet.

-
hey nwwabowhntr i know this is probably a dumb question but my work schedule got changed can i shoot sunday just for fun thank you
Of course! If you only shoot one day is fine, just for trophies you have to shoot both days.
-
ok thank you is there a time on sunday that we have to start or any time will do
-
Sunday is a 9 AM shotgun start,
-
Planning to come up on Saturday and will be a 3D First Timer. Main goal is to just get out shoot, have fun, and try not to lose many arrows. Any suggestions/advice?
-
Range estimation is what hurts my score more than anything else. :twocents:

Well, if you don't care about the competition and just want to "fun shoot" (and aren't walking around with someone that is competing) you can use your range finder. This will go a long way towards not losing any arrows. Just as an aside, the 12/10 ring isn't always where I would prefer to shoot an animal. So you can either bring a pair of binos and find the 12/10 ring (depends on how the scoring works for that particular shoot) or just shoot it where you would if you were hunting and don't worry about the score.
This obviously disqualifies you from competition but if you're just there for fun it does't matter. DON'T say the range out loud or around competitors, though. Otherwise, if you don't want to risk it, skip the steel targets or other tricky shots. Have fun - if you're a new 3d shooter just go buy some less expensive arrows and resign yourself to the fact that you'll lose a few. No big deal - it's worth it for the great practice. You'll eventually want to stop using the range finder as you get better with the 3d shoots.
If you do use your range finder, under no circumstances should you try to submit your score card. Probably a good way to find out just how good of a shot some of those guys are. :chuckle:
-
Oh and bring your binos so you can see the scoring rings
-
We will be using the 10/8/5 scoring. 10 for the inside ring, 8 for the outer ring and 5 anywhere on the animal. If you are new to 3D come on out and have fun. If you do want to use your range finder just keep the ranges to yourself, and just tell anyone who asks you are just shooting for fun. Our Saturdays scores do not count for trophies anyway, it is just a way to flight competitors with equivalent shooters on Sunday. If you are not sure about the scoring rings you can google rinehart targets and find where the scoring rings are, binos are a good idea to see the rings. Distances will be for the most part in the 30-45 yard ranges with a couple of exceptions of a few larger targets stretched out to 50 or so, and a couple of small targets a tad bit closer. THat is for adult compound shooters anyway. Trad and youth will not be past 40 (most shorter) and cub nothing farther than 17 yards, most in the 10-15 yard range. We have red stakes for adult compound, blue for youth and trad, and yellow stakes for cubs (under 12). Must shoot both days for trophies, all cub competitors on Sunday will "medal". Saturday is a casual start anytime from 8 AM to 2Pm and Sunday shooters meeting at 8:30 and shotgun start at 9AM. We will have breakfast each day (biscuits and gravy) and lunch will be chili, hot dogs, chips, these are available for a small price. Looks like the weather is going to cooperate, and we will have a lot of fun. Practice range from 20-80 yards will be open at 7 AM until dusk.
-
here are some examples of the scoring rings you can find on the internet, rinehart targets.
-
Do you guys have all Rinehart targets now.
-
WE will have 25 or 26 out this weekend. We just ordered 6 more so by March we will have 32. Our goal is to get to 100% rinehart. The ones that aren't are still in real good shape, the delta and mckenzies. THose are the leaning bear, buffalo, caribou, walking bear, bull lek and cinnamon bear. Last year we ordered 10 new rineharts and new inserts for all our others. Out of the non-rineharts the only one I don't like is the big bull elk (Mckenzie) because it is so hard to get arrows out of, if you don't lube your arrows. SO the coourse will be a 32 target setup for both days. WIth 1-2 challenge shots if you want the extra points... hahahaha :yike: :P
-
Oh forgot to add, gates will be open today for those wanting to come up and camp the night before, 3D course will be closed but practice area 20-80 will be open.
-
Good shoot today. I shot pretty good besides a few fives and a 0 :bash:
-
Like to say thanks to all who showed up, weather held out for the most part... some good shooting and lots of fun!
-
WHidbey will be hosting its 2nd shoot of the year, Feb 26/27. Saturday will be a 32 target course with a casual start from 8-2. Sunday will be a shotgun start at 9 with shooters meeting for target assignments at 8:30. Sunday is also the 2nd leg of the Buckle shoot. You don't need to be in the buckle shoot to participate in our Feb 3D. Sunday will be a 30 target 3D shoot. See the flyer in the 1st post of this thread.
-
should be fun. I dont know what to do this weekend without any shoots close by :bash:
-
just kinda curious why you get five instead of getting a zero or subtracting five for hitting the animal :dunno:
-
the goal is to shoot all tens but sometimes you make a bad shot.
-
should the bad shot then be a negative instead of a positive then :dunno:
-
should the bad shot then be a negative instead of a positive then :dunno:
maybe but its not how they score them in 3-D shoots.
-
should the bad shot then be a negative instead of a positive then :dunno:
Typical scoring at 3D shoots scores 10/8/5. There's a shoot at a club in Canada where they score 10/8/-5. I'll tell you... you don't want to get too many of those -5's!
-
We will have the parking lot open for those wishing to camp starting Friday, as we will be there setting up the course starting about 10AM, gates will be open and practice range will open by 3 PM. 3D course will be closed of course for setup, and will not open until 8 AM Saturday. Looks like we will have decent weather, a bit cold though. Breakfast and lunch will be available. Our costs are $10 a day for adult, $7 for youth (12-17) and $5 for "cub", under 7 is free. There is also a cap of $43 for the whole weekend for families. Come on out and have some fun,
-
Can't wait should be a fun shoot.
-
Weather for the weekend looks fine, the shoot will happen!
-
Its kinda cold today
-

-
Lots of trad shooters! Good shoot, put out some of our brand new rineharts we had just received Friday evening... this is a pic of the Trad shooters.
