Ok guys and gals, I know its early but better to get started now then next fall! I was thinking about hunting in the high country next fall for deer probably the lick crick area up around the mt. Misery area I know that there are some good deer around that area but is it worth the effort and has anyone taken something worth talking about in this area? Everyone talks about the cascade deer but there has to be some on this side of the state.... and to all you blues boys I know there are no deer left in the blues after pathfinders Sasquatch got to the them so lets just pretend for now :chuckle: :chuckle: Thanks in advance :hello:

I'll let you know in about 3 weeks ;) . I suspect now that I've spent more time learning this area that this is the general area where I'll be hunting next year too.

I spend a lot of time around Mt Misery and I can tell ya that there are no quality deer in that particular region. ;)

All kidding aside 400, I'm sure you know that there are some "keepers" in there. Tough country but a fella can be successful if he puts the effort in.

Hey, I've spent a lot of time in the area as well, as I live in Asotin. I agree with agchawk, there are a few keepers in the area. Unfortunately they are very few and far between, not to mention there is some big country in that area. Luckily you can glass a lot and spend less time walking. My brother bow hunted it a couple days last year. He saw a couple does, a herd of elk, and wolf crap and tracks all over the place. My dad lives on grouse flats on the south base of misery and saw several wolfs, lots of bears, and at least one cougar a month, some times 3-5. It did not help that he was baiting in the predators his food plots and corn box. He just moved, but there use to be 30 legal bucks that hung around his house 5 - 10 years ago. He just sold his place, but when we left there were only 5 left, the cougars got them all. The last month he was living there his oldest deer, a 7 or 8 year old whitetail, got killed by a cougar in his yard. They followed the drag marks across the road and into the brush. It was a 147 inch 4 point. So the moral of the story, don't go there without a cougar, bear, or wolf tag because the predators have the numbers cut way back.

Let me just say there is an endless supply of cats when you live on the border of a wilderness area, or anywhere I guess where hounds and spotlighting are illegal. As for the well fed coyotes, no comment.
