I'm at my dad's and I noticed the mount of the big non-typical that i have shared pics of, some of the hair looks messed up. On the underside of the neck, it looks like somebody ran their hand up against the fur, making it kind of stick up in some places. I'm not sure if that is what really happened or if it is just sticking up over time. I know it didn't look like this to begin with. Is there anything you can use to make it lay back down?
Maybe some deer hairspray? :chuckle:

i use WD-40 on a clean rag and wipe with the hair (i clean my mounts the same way) it should work it back down since it was down to start with unless the taxidermist used a hair set gel to hold it down.

Take a couple pictures and let me see it. I've never herd of cleaning a mount with WD-40.

Its an "old" way of cleaning antlers but the hair?????? Thats the first I have heard of using it on the hair. Well if it works it works I guess.
Check under the hair that is sticking up to make sure the hair didnt get bent under. If it is I usually use a long pin and run through the hairs to untangle and get them going in the right direction. Run the pin or a pencil would probably work too , in the same direction the hair is laying.

Thats what I was thinking. I have heard of using it for antlers just not hair.

I wasn't able to get any pictures that would show the detail of what I'm talking about. The hairs don't seem to be tangled or anything, just not laying completely flat.

You got one of those wire dog brushes? Clean that thing good and run it gently through the hair first and see if it doesn't lay back down.

I wouldn't use WD-40 on the hair. I use it on my antelred mounts as it works better than the commercial stuff. One of th things that makes it good as because there is oil in it....it is a petroleum product...it collects dust. That works to an advantage with antlers actually. It would not for the hair. I try very hard to make sure th e overspray doesn't get on them. Use one of those compressed air cans and blow off as much dust as possible. You can then take a moist rag (Moist...not wet) and give him his groom job. That will ussually fix it unless there has been damagedone to it. There are professional products that you can purchase that help condition the hair...add a little shine...and also adds bug proofing to it. Let me know if you want any links to them.

If all the bruching and grooming doesnt work or help I think I know what it is . You may have to use some hair gell and slick it down real good , let it dry for a few days and then brush it out.
Show Sheen is what I use to clean the hair on my mounts. Yoou can get it or a product like it at your local feed store.
