Boss .300 ... these are Oregon Cascade blacktails. They live in the high timber all summer and don't see the light of day until the rut.

Howdy deerslyr :hello: ... I would normally be getting ready to let the air out of a rutting buck with a doug fir arrow from my recurve, but I had a heart attack and quadruple bypass at the end of August just before archery elk season began. I don't post much on BTC anymore, don't have a lot in common with the NoCal crowd.
-
Hope your feeling better and recovering! :hello:
-
im sorry to hear that I hope you recover fully and soon at that! Yah I dont know what happened to BTC after they switched boards all of the washington and oregon guys stopped posting.
BTW guys if you wanna know anything about takin huge blacktails pay attentions to treekillers post because he is a blacktail killin machine! and all with a recurve at that.
-
Thanks guys! I'm in rehab, but going out to photograph rutting bucks in probably the best therapy. :)

didnt know bears did the pole dance, learn something every day, nice picts. is that a magic pole? seems to get used alot
-
Could it be that they like the kind of wood the pole is made of? Can you tell what kind it is? Our 9 acres of land needs a scratching post like that. I wonder why they first started rubbing on that particular post. Probably when one started using it, other animals did too. Is it along a good trail? An intersection of trails? Along an "edge" between an open area and the woods? Do bobcats or mt. lions also use it?
Has anyone else found a rubbing post like this one?
Diane

Just reviewed the other "rubbing post" thread, and some of my questions are answered.
Does anyone know what brand of "Pressure Treated" wood the Forest Service uses?
It looks like the post has to be put in the ground very solidly so they can't push it over. I'd be tempted to unscrew that sign from the broken post, take the half-post home and plant it.
