When Muleysniper gets home he will post the pics and story. It was a fun hunt and he shot a cool buck. I was gald 2 be able to join em and tag along. I think we saw 30 bucks in a day and half. We also met up with Cascade, wazzu99 and a few other members up there and they got 2 watch the hole thing.

Thanks guys! First off I have to thank the guys who helped out before and during my hunt- Doublelung, Cascade, Wazzu99, Cascades brother (sorry bud forgot your screen name) and especially Shad, Antlerking. He actually met me up there and was there for the whole hunt. He also sacrificed his little yota and took it through some hellish terrain! :chuckle: Also my dad for coming along, but that's pretty typical since we hunt together 99% of the time.
I'll be honest, when I first found out I drew a tag, all I could think about was a high scoring buck. I was looking for either wide with great tines or heavy with some trash but being my first time hunting rutting muley's I then realized score doesn't mean one thing. Hunting rutting deer is the coolest thing ever. Day one I went out with no intentions in firing unless I saw something with the "wow" factor. We glassed over twenty bucks the first day with over half of them chasing does. Saw a handful of descent 3x4's, 3x3's some two's, even a descent 4x6 that I videoed for about 3 minutes. The weather was mile the whole time. It spit snow on Thursday night, but nothing then a tiny blanket on the roads. At times it felt like it reached the mid fifties during the middle of the day. Even at the top only the facing slopes were dusted with a light snow. The deer were moving, but not flooding from the hill tops.
That first evening ended with myself spotting the buck that I ended up shooting. We watched him from about a hundred yards with his doe. He didn't have the width I was really in search of, but he did have character and descent mass. I could also tell his back forks weren't huge. I didn't even get out my rifle while we watched him. Headed back to camp that night excited to see what Saturday had to offer.
Saturday we headed out real early towards mud creek. We could see lights from the distance ahead of us heading up the hill. First sign we were going to see more rigs it being the weekend. After lots and lots of glassing and picking apart the canyons we had seen only a handful of does and some smaller bucks. We were watching a group of does with a small 3pt. with them. I kept on em hoping to find a wiley buck when I barked out huge buck! It was a massive 26-27" wide 2pt. He was a cool looking buck but not what I was intending on shooting. We watched him run his does over to the next canyon. Finished out that hole by watching a small 3x4 come rolling from out of the hills. As we decided to check another area where we had seen the buck from the night before, we noticed other tracks heading into the brushy abyss. Wow we thought, who else would really drive their rig through this stuff? Well, it ended up being Wazzu99, Cascade and his brother :chuckle: Not knowing it was them at the time, we asked them if they had any intention on walking out on an old skid road we were planning on taking out. After bs'ing for a few, we put the website connection together. Then Wazzu or Cascade asked if we were interested in a 4pt. They smiled and pointed out the buck from the night before standing on the hillside above us. With Cascade the only tag holder left they had been watching him for about twenty minutes. We started to glass him again, watching him tear after a pesky two pt. that was harassing his doe. The more I looked at him and his cheater, dark chocolate horns, fat neck, I decided I'd like him on my wall. Took a little video of him chasing his doe before handing the cam to my dad. I got into a prone position on a rocky outlook, settle in on him and squeezed the trigger! A bitter sweet end. I was going to leave on Sunday and return with Stickslinger on the following Thurs and hunt til Saturday the close, but this buck drew me in. It was looking like I wasn't going to get the big snow fall that brings the deer flooding down the hill making the trip back not look as appealing. He ended up not being the monster everyone hopes to get a chance at, but I'm happy as hell with him. He's my best muley so far. Has everything I wanted besides the width and he's a little weak in the back but still has character. All those guys got a chance to see him up close too. They all helped out. Everyone climbed up to see him and help get him down. Id like to thank everyone again. There are some really good guys on this site Ive had the chance to meet since joining a few years ago. Good luck and happy hunting!

We got back to camp that afternoon. Antlerking introduced me to my new favorite CD :chuckle: David Allen Coe "Underground" :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: Put it on and got him skinned out and caped. Spent that evening drinking beer and eating backstrap around the camp fire!

Thanks again guys! Just took him down to Charlie's today. Having him do a wall pedestal mount
turning right. Charlie pointed out that his teeth were nearly worn all the way down. He was a big bodied SOB. His neck taped 28" across after he was completely caped. His hooves were also huge. Worn down and chunks missing from them. Were figuring he was getting up there in age.
