He is OLD!!!!!!!!!
Great Picture Bone
-
Bone,
Would that 30" be outside spread?!?! And if so, to get the outside spread, do you just measure straight across from the the farthest outside points?!?!
-
29"
-
Rem3hun, Yeah.
I am thinking just under...but he's not "quite" straight on enough to know for sure!
Nuther Dandy Doug!!!

Yep... haven't been too critical of him. Some angles he looked really wide, some, not so much. His flare is decieving. His ears were about 24. He was a big old deer. All you need is 3 on a side....
-
I got on him for two days. I got within 10 yards of him. I was shooting him with my 70-200 full frame.

wow thats a incredible deer
-
i'mgonna guess 28", and that is not an educated guess...
-
Awesome buck Bone...
-
Great buck and a monster 3pt but I wouldnt guess over 28. Just my :twocents: !!!
-
I had him about 29. Just wishful thinking on him. He was a cool deer. I got damn near close enough to measure him myself. I thought maybe his flare made it. Its always hard to tell in pics, but he was a large deer. I should have taken pics of his tracks. Looked like an elk.
-
Nice big mature 3!
-
What a stud three point, I have a shed from one similar to that but I am pretty sure he would have been many many miles from where that pic was taken.

-
Good lookin buck for danged sure. Nice pics Doug.
-
I would say he is really close to 30". Like to see him grow a 4th point next year!
-
In the second photo the aspect is not quite perfect, but I think this deer might make the 30" mark. A mulies ears are somewhere between 22" and 24" when alert. This guys antlers are well past his ear tips. At his widest point he's gotta be darn close if not over. A darn nice buck. I really enjoy your photos.
-
Thank you. I generally call a deers ears 23 on a big one, and 22 if 4 years old or so. I think this guy had 24 inch ears. I just love him. He probably won't grow a 4th. I wish he had a little more moss on his bases, like basket. He had his own harem and none of the other big boys cared to bother him.
-
they at it pretty hard over there bone? Heade out sat or sun for the duration or as long as it takes. Probably been a windy bitch over there. You make it through ok?
-
Chainsaw is in back. I bet there is a lot of stuff down. Timing should have them traveling a lot. Many of the does are covered. The NE deer are in between cycles right now. Bucks are solitary and out sleeping. Funny.
-
When you goin again?
The more I look at him, the more I like him... didn't really notice the mass till just now...
-
10-4 My saw will be in the back too. Couldn't have happened at a better time. Should be a little easier to get wood for camp

There was a buck that wintered near Wenatchee for a lot of years that was a really wide 3 and about the 4th or 5th winter I watched him he had grown a 4th point. That buck ended up pushing 40" in his prime.
-
Is that the one Slider was filming Lowe?
-
Negetive sliders buck was a dif. deer
-
COOL! Glad there's more than one.
-
I think Slider's buck was an off spring.
Here is a pic I still have on photobucket that they resized when they changed their site around years ago. Kind of tough to tell in that pic but you can get an idea of how wide he was.

yes please
-
still a couple similar bucks wintering up there. not quite as wide but def same genes. don't you have to get permission to find those sheds? :dunno:
-
Duh.....do you have to ask. :chuckle:
-
Here you go, the pic is kinda dark, the flash is not cooperating.
I am not 2 sure about the 1st atl pic, if its from the left side. I kinda dont remeber.
-
Nice buck and nice sheds.. Where is he in late October???? :dunno:
-
The area is now closed until may 1st I beleive. I havnt hiked up there in the last 2 years. Way to many people living up there and I dont like the publicity and granolas. I am sure there is a bunch of sheds to find up there, but not for me. to sketchy .
-
Thats cool!
-
Here is 1 more big 3 from the same area! He is a main frame 3 point with a few extras.
not 2 be jacking your thread bone, these are from the exact same area were i found the last sheds.
-
One of these days one like this will cross my path while I am out hunting.
-
Not at all, more pics the better. One of my favorite deer of all time was a big three. I still regret not getting a good pic of him. Memory will always be there.
-
This was one of my favorite threes of all time.

black line is x at 24 inches. it equals 31 units
red line equals 41 units
solving for x equals 31.7 inches even if the ears are 23, the spread would be 30.4 inches
-
I would agree no less than 30.
-

huh? :dunno:
-
I see a 27 or 28 inch buck there
-
Great pics bone. I really appreciate the work you put in to bring us these pics.
-
No hi-jack at all. Cool way to display them.
-
Cool stuff guys. 8)

On the actual outside of the flares you might be real close. Just a great series. I admire the incredible investment in time and money to get these types of shots.
-
Thanks Decker
-
the way u used that measuring tool is pretty slick.any chance you could use a measuring tool on a picture i took? I would like a better idea on how wide this guy is :dunno:
-
Yes I can with that pic. Give me a few.
-
Hes also banging around 32.5-33
probably 21 inch ears. 21/28=.75x44=33 My measurement isn't absolutely clear. .75x43=32.25
-
thanks for taking the time bone....never seen one that wide wild

What's truly amazing about this deer is the fact that he is most likely sporting a true 30" spread. By that I mean a true 30" inside spread on the main beams which is how he would be measured for B&C. A lot of the 30+ deer you see are called that because they have flares or some non-typical points that will get them out there on an OUTSIDE spread measurement. If you captured this photo, congratulations, a stellar achievement and trophy all by its self.
-
I bet he is almost 30 inside. Probably a rarity where the main was the limitiing factor on spread credit.
-
Can you use that spread tool on this one? I know its pretty blurry.
-
He'll go 30" if he's 24" tip to tip on his ears. His G4's flare all the way out and that's where you get the outside spread measurement. Love that rack. The CDOW has a typical 3x3 that makes B&C in the main office. Ever since I saw that mount I've wanted a huge 3. Still do. Maybe someday...
-
That is some deer to make boone as a three.
