Well after about 16-18 days in the woods between general deer and general elk, I'm happy to get a deer. It's just a forky but I will happily take it. I started the hunt by biking in behind a gate about three miles, and worked some areas with a lot of rubs. I purchased a set of primos antlers and have been reading about them and practicing a bit. I did my sequence at about three different locations following what appears to be a line of rubs across the top of several adjoining clear cuts. After the last sequence with no action I headed down through the cut I was in. Within about 150-200 yards I saw this forky sneaking across the clear cut ruffly parallel :bdid: to the line of scrapes I was following. I don't know if it was a coincidence, If I jumped him and he was sneaking out, or if he was sneaking buy the brawl up at the rubs (antlers crashing). What ever the reason I was happy to see him. After my obligatory; silent gasping, shaking, celebrating, and forced calming down (all in about 3/4 of a second) I went for the closest rest a fallen log but it was to low so back on my feet for an off hand shot at about 45-55 yards. I hit him in the neck and he went down, I mean straight down, not a step. I shoot a 12 ga with 300gr sabots. So at close range its a fair amount of energy, however once I got to him he was not expiring to quickly so I shot again. It was about a 500yd drag to the logging road, and a three mile ride out on the bike the deer not me. I installed a cross member instead of seat along with some hammock netting and put the deer on top of the bike across the bars and the cross member. It was not easy getting that thing on the bike.javascript:void(0);

These pics didn't go through the first time, does anyone think the dew claws in the first post look odd?
