first things first,,a huge thank you,to woodman and Bruce for taking this guy outta of a walk in area, you two are the greatest.. one phone call and they were there faster than the police,,I owe you two big time..
The morning started out great saw two nice bucks driving in,,did a little hunting with no results in one area..So went to another walk in and debated if I wanted to make the hike in to my dark spot..I was hurting already but did it..
I reached the area and moved in to an area where the wind was right,This area is very dark and thick.I worked my way to a trail I wanted to sit and rattle on.I sat down and noticed some nice size fresh tracks...Change of plans,I decided to follow the tracks and rattle as I still hunted..After several tries I kept on moving ,I rattled twice a little farther down the trail, and heard a snap ahead of me.I thought perhaps I pushed him out ahead of me...Then all of a sudden at 10 or 12 feet there he was coming head on to my left.. I put my wife's 243 on the throat and dumped it,then put another in the head to speed up the process.
I was very excited at the size of this old forkie..He had a crease on his left side where somebody grazed him.I'm thinking in the early season by the wound..
Ive been having doubts about hunting because of the pain, but with friends like Joe and Bruce its great to know I have help..Again thanks Guys...This was an awesome day,It will be remembered forever....

:jacked:The rut drive is incredible. About 14 years ago I shot a big urban mule deer buck (on the job), he was chasing does with two broken back legs (poacher shot him). A coworker pushed him toward the river, where he promptly jumped in and swam across; I was in position to put him down with a load of double-ought as he climbed up the bank. We hung him up in the Game & Fish shop to skin for a full body decoy mount; but when I started to skin out a back leg, at least a quart of foul pus poured out. Based on the severe and advanced rate of infection, and the condition of the lower legs and breaks, I estimated he had been rutting in that condition for at least a week. Two broken back legs, and a severe systemic infection that would have killed him fairly soon - still giving it his all, fighting other bucks and breeding does.
-
Good job. that's a great buck.
-
Nice buck Rasbo, that's a good-sized deer.
-
Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet! Conflatulations!
-
First off, nice job. Good looking deer and you will have some good memories from the hunt. Some tasty dinners ahead. Second, with you holding that deer head up all bloody and grim I realized you are both a couple of ugly looking fellas. Just kidding around here...glad it worked out for you. Doesn't have to be a monster to be a trophy.
-
Sweet Forky Rasbo.....You should have just drawn the knife and let him keep coming.. You would be a hero on here if you killed it bare handed with your knife... Nice buck.....JAMNG
-
Was that buck killed in Hancock? Great looking buck there Rasbo by the look of that wound You might have done the poor guy a favor.
-
Good buck! Glad you got a deer! Congrats on having good friends to help get the deer out! Awesome!
-
Cool buck Rasbo. That blackie has some age to him it appears and nice bone for a Forky. I can't get over the size of him and how awesome those back straps are gonna taste. I've taken a couple mule deer rattlin, an occasional grunt and moving ever so slow, it worked for me during the rut, but since the season closes over here before the rut I haven't done it in a while. Sure did work on that blacktail. Super pics and write-up Rasbo and friends like that are what makes a good hunting season complete. :) :) John

that is one nice fork
-
weighed him at Mt view,180lbs is what we figured,,138 lbs no head legs or guts.Im thinking thats a good guess,, as far as ugly, well maybe he seen how ugly I am and was gonna put me outta my misery.. :chuckle:

I bet that 180# is pretty darn close. My brother got a 3x in the general season that weighed 140# minus guts, head, hide and lower legs. After weighting the other parts and adding for the guts they came up with 190# for an estimated live weight.
Again, nice buck. Congrats.
-
That's a big fork! How was the meat on that old boy? I shot a buck once that had been creased by a bullet and the meat had turned and was too the point of not being edible.
-
congrats man that's a nice lookin deer
