The mother is killing for herself and two kittens, and for any wolves in the area. Three times last winter I witnessed 4 wolves take the deer kill away from cougars. The wolves are good at it and the cat just has to go kill again for some thing to eat.

I thought wolfs only ran in packs!!!

Great picture!

Nice picture. Where was it taken?
-
WOW.. That is a great pic!! There was WDFW camera a few years ago in Ione that had 5 adult cats on a deer roadkill!

Maybe it will be a mutual destruction....
Actually it's been documented in MT and ID already, the cats come out on the short end of the deal. Actually no contest at all. I have seen a pack of hounds stretch a mid-sized cat without much pain for their efforts.
-
they look healthy too

It just isn't fair. What about a pack of mountain lions vs a pack of wolves? :dunno:
I want to see one wolf vs one cougar.

ACTUALLY, THE LAST PIC HAS 4 CATS IN IT. HAVE YOU SEEN MANY DEER IN THAT AREA?

Those are pretty big kits, would they still be illegal [since you can still see some spots]? Id have a hard time not shooting.
