For me, that would be a first day bull with any lower 48 tag. But then again, I've never killed a moose before. You're right, DANDY BULL.

He is a NE WA bull.  Two years in a row we have seen him in the same area.  He was by himself the first time I saw him this year.  The second time we saw him this year, he was with 7 other bulls.  Three of the others werent that bad.  The second biggest I will say was probably pushing 50", and this guy DWARFED HIM.  I looked for a big bull that was hanging around the unit two years ago when I had the raffle tag, but no go.

tine length doesnt count on moose, there are some dandy bulls out there that dont score well. we might as well score elk and deer the same just count the pts, no credit for length

that bull? those paddles are 8 1/2 wide maybe and short. Hes got great width thats about it, cool bull for sure with those tines but they dont count

I score the bull at 168".  Great bull for sure.  Wider paddles sure would have got him up higher.

Screw the scoring issue.  I would have gladly placed my tag on him this year.  You know Turkybob, I don't remember you having Ryan give me the location of this prior to my hunt, especially since you had seen him before.  Saving him for yourself I see.

I get to look at a lot of moose where I live, that bull is a bit weat on the palms, but I have not seen one yet that compares on the lenght of points. I would take that one and be tickled.......regardless of score.

He wouldnn't score worth beans besides spread credit.   Weak on mass, palm length and width.  Point length is awesome for aesthetics, but horrible on paper.  Fun bull though. Thanks for the pics

I saw the bull yesterday.  7.5" bases  8.5" paddles 32" palms 9 points 55" wide.  Looks like a good one to me.  165-169"

Post by: blacktailer on November 27, 2010, 09:25:12 AM
Well I'll bite with another spin.  I would say 7.5" bases, if correct, are pretty impressive for a Shiras.  Regarding the point lengths being terrible on paper; let's say this bull with his incredible time lengths got an extra ten inches of spread credit because of those extra long tines.  That is the equivalent of adding 5 inches per side on his palm widths when it comes to score.   It's all about inches of bone.  Long tine length often means smaller palm width but often adds to your one and only spread credit.  Plus he looks cool as hell.  My 2 cents.  Great bull any way you shake him.

I'd take those awesome points anyday over a better scorer!  It's really cool that none of them are broke off.  This bull kind of reminds me of the bull finnman's wife shot a year or so ago, with those sweet tines.

YES ,  IM VERY HAPPY WITH THE BULL'    BC SCORE  GREEN SCORE SITTING AT 162 6/8  SCI SCORE SITTING AT  400 +-   NEED TO RESCORE AS THERE WAS SOME DESCREPENCIY WITH FIRST GREEN SCORE.  AND HOW HE SCORED IT.   IM VERY HAPPY WITH THE BULL. I WAS LOOKING FOR A BULL WITH GOOD FRONTS AND LONG POINTS BUT DIDNT EXPECT TO GET SOMTHING THIS NICE. ESPECIALY AFTER SEEING A LARGE BULL WITH 4 BROW TINES ON ONE SIDE  AND 6 LONG POINTS ON TOP EARLY IN HUNT AND CHASING IT WITH A MUZZLOADER AND WATCHING IT WALK AWAY AND NEVER SEEING IT AGAIN.ALSO SAW A NON TYPICAL THAT I NAMED TRASHY.   DOWN TO THE LAST FEW DAY OF THE HUNT AND THE FIRST BULL I SAW HAD ONLY ON ANTLER .  THOUGH I HAD WAITED TOO LONG TO SHOOT AND WAS GOING TO END UP SHOOTING A SMALL BULL OR COW TO FILL TAG.  AND WAS THINKING ABOUT THE OTHER 65 MOOSE I HAD PASSED ON EARLER IN THE SEASON.. BEST HUNT I HAVE DONE   IT IS DEFENATLY A GROUP EFFORT AND WE ALL HAD A GREAT TIME HUNTING .

I am 99% sure I saw that bull when I was bear hunting this year.  If it's not him, it's his twin brother.  I got some pictures, but they're with a disposable camera from about 70 yards, so you can't see his points very well.
Right after the second time we saw him we ran into a tag holder, brought him back to the same area and tried to put him on this bull, but couldn't find him again.  The tag holder harvested another bull in a different area a couple of days later.
I am going to email this thread to the guy I was with and see if he thinks it is the same bull too.

We said the same thing by the way; awesome bull, won't score real high, but look at those tines and who cares about the score!
I'll see if I can find my crappy pics of him.

Super bull BTW Roadtrip!  COngratulations!

Like I said, they're crappy pictures taken with a disposable, and you can't see his tines, but I am still 99% sure this is the same bull.
