SWEET man! That sounds like fun. Id like to do that some day. Hopefully you knock one down. It will make a good piece for your shop !

Good luck Bowtech.
I'm in Maui now, enjoying some sunshine with the family and wished I would have packed some hunting gear. Actually took a ferry to Lanai on Friday to play some golf and could not believe all of the tracks and rubs on the golf course. I mean shredded!
Please post lots of pics. I talked to a couple locals on the ferry that were heading over to hunt and Lanai sounds like the place to be for free-ranging axis, but looks like tough country.
Please take lots of photos.
Sounds fun.

Ya hopefully we can find some bucks up where we can hunt... I guess the problem lately is the drought is pushing the bucks into town looking for water wherever they can find it.

Good luck to you.. Story & pics when you get back...

Born and raised on Maui and grew up hunting Axis deer on Lanai. They have been killing alot of big bucks on Lanai lately. You can see all the pics on facebook Lanai Hunting and fishing. Good luck and can't wait to see the pics and hear the story of your hunt.

I didn't even know there were deer on Hawaii to hunt. Transplants, I presume? Is it just bow and shotgun there? Or smokepoles and modern rifles allowed, too? :dunno:

Nope, they swam over with the pigs!

Good luck on your hunt. Hum!!! Maybe a good idea for a Christmas present for my wife. Trip to Hawaii for the 2 of us. And just pack the bow, to do a little hunting. :chuckle: :chuckle:

Well I had a great trip and saw some awsome bucks and rams but i hate to disapoint you guys but didnt end up packing anything home :( The hunting aspect of the trip was kinda thrown together last minute and my outfitter ( uncles/cousins) didnt cross the Ts and dot the Is when it came down to it. I know I shouldve done it myself but they insisted they had it taken care of and to just show up with my gear and hunters safety card. When we went to pic up the licence/ tags we found out some stuff about non-residents hunting that we didnt know... like that you have to have a reservation for the area of the island you wanna hunt and it was just my luck that there were no openings for any of the time that i was going to be there >:( I dont hold it against anybody over there though because they buy a 15 dollar tag and have free run of the island like year around. All in all it was a good trip and I found a nice set of matched shed horns and got to shoot the awsome sporting clays set up they have on the island. If all works out well i plan to go back hopefully in june when I can do a hunting only trip and combo sheep and deer. For anyone looking to do the hunt i would highly recommend it but be sure to look into ALL the details if your going diy.
