Finally filled my Multi Season/special permit blacktail tag this afternoon. When I crossed tracks with him, I wasnt but probably 5 minutes behind him. A short tracking job and a little glassing later I found him and put him down at about 120 yards with an off hand shot to the neck as that was about all I had for a shot. There was probably about 5 inches of snow and the temp was 25 degrees. He is a huge framed 3x2, 19inches wide and has small eyeguards!

Great local buck Bearhunter. Shows how big some of our local blacktail really are. Nice pics.
-
Bearhunter, that is one stud of a blacktail buck! Even better was that you were able to track him to the end. You don't hear that very often with blacktail and that is one thing I have always hoped to do.
Great job on a beautiful buck

Nice BT James! Their sure has been some nice Blackies shot around here this year.
-
That is bruiser for sure. Great job on tracking him down. PB
-
What GMU is still open for rifle hunting? I checked the game regs and I couldnt find a blacktail GMU that is still open for modern firearm. I understand that you had the multi-season permit, but dont you have to hunt with the appropriate weapon during that season with the multi-season permit?
Yes, you do.
I dont claim to know the special permit regs inside and out but hopefully everything was all good here b/c it is a great buck and looks to be very much appreciated. Congrats on a beauty of a BT
-
Ya I thought the same thing?? It should be a muzzy or bow Rifle is over. Did you kill it in late buck season?? All modern deer seasons are closed I thought.
-
Dude awesome buck and awesome pics. There was quality deer hunts going on at that time guys.

Yeah I figured there was something. Great Buck man...I am jealous!! Never seen one that big on the hoof. Hopefully later this year. tracked some bruiser sized tracks for about 6 hours yesterday about 2 miles, tried doe bleats and rattling every couple hundred yards but jumped him out of his bed around 1pm or so.
Again, sweet buck
-
That is one big buck. nice job
-
To tell you guys the truth, I used a helicopter, during bow season, and shot three before I got one I liked oh and ya I wasn't wearing my hunters orange either. Hahahaha, who is stupid enough to post pictures of illegal *censored* they have done, come on guys I said it was a special permit hunt. No I'm not gonna tell the Gmu and ruin the draw odds. I actually have a ton of pictures from other hunts this year but haven't posted because of half the stupid comments that come out. I wasn't going to post these pics but was pretty excited so I wanted to share, may refrain from doing that anymore.... Thanks for the guys that complemented and didn't question!
-
James, don't stop posting photos just 'cause some *censored* wants to accuse or speculate. They are in the minority and usually end up on an *censored* site.
Don't punish those of us that know how you hunt...and post the damn pics of the helicopter already.
-
:yeah:
-
was the helicopter black? Ha
-
Nice Buck!! You have had an awesome season!
-
Nice deer looks like a real trophy. Thanks for posting the pictures.
The guys who question everything and look for loop holes are just jealous.
-
I wont Billy just get pissed sometimes, the comments werent really that bad I just have been a little frustrated with people on here from time to time, just to many arm chair game wardens!!
-
Sweet buck, Jeremy told me you shot a nice one. Congrats!!!
-
Them "ARM CHAIR GAME WARDENS" are the hunters that Road Hunt and don't get out of there truck and put 1/2 mile on there boats... I'm short and heavy set... I at least get out of my truck and walk 10 miles a day when I'm hunting... I do my best... I don't road hunt!!
-
Tony270, my rifle was a Remington model 700 BDL in a 7mm mag. I stripped the rifle down to the action, had a Bench Mark 27" barrell and recoil lug made and matched up to the action. Then I put a HS precision stock, timney trigger, Badger clip kit, and a leupold Mark 4 4.5-14 x50 scope. The gun is scary accurate if the guy behind the trigger can stay calm!!

I knew there was a good explanation. So many special hunts in this state (not a bad thing) at different times most weapons are open at any given moment in any given unit.
Nothing like a big mature blacktail buck in the snow, thats one to remember.
-
Great buck. Cool pics.
-
Wait....a special permit. I guess that kind of screws me on my 10 points lol. Seriously though, congrats on a good season and good draws. Both of those units have nice animals as you have shown. Someday i'd like to see your game room....should be getting filled by now.
-
Hey James time to get back to work. I don't believe that helocopter crap! :P The boys in the "PAT SHACK" know how much money you make and you can't afford a copter for spotting. Come see us and tell us the story. Oh yeah and bring that thumb drive so we can see the whole year.
Shannon
P.S. I got a FoxPro on my xmas list just in case you get bored in the off season.
-
Well congrats just the same if you choose not to post the other pictures. That late 4 day permit is a good one to have.
-
I can't really add anything to this thread other than NICE!!!

Not going to talk about the local GMU's that may ruin draw odds? That seems SO unlike you
-
Guesswho, you gonna just hide behind your screen name? That is SO like you!!! Sent u a PM.
-
Nicely done James.
-
Thats a great buck congrats.
