Title: Hunting Blacktail in the Snow! (W/Pics)
Post by: Bearhunter on November 23, 2010, 09:55:57 PM: Finally filled my Multi Season/special permit blacktail tag this afternoon. When I crossed tracks with him, I wasnt but probably 5 minutes behind him. A short tracking job and a little glassing later I found him and put him down at about 120 yards with an off hand shot to the neck as that was about all I had for a shot. There was probably about 5 inches of snow and the temp was 25 degrees. He is a huge framed 3x2, 19inches wide and has small eyeguards!

Yeah I figured there was something. Great Buck man...I am jealous!! Never seen one that big on the hoof. Hopefully later this year. tracked some bruiser sized tracks for about 6 hours yesterday about 2 miles, tried doe bleats and rattling every couple hundred yards but jumped him out of his bed around 1pm or so.

Hahahaha, who is stupid enough to post pictures of illegal *censored* they have done, come on guys I said it was a special permit hunt. No I'm not gonna tell the Gmu and ruin the draw odds. I actually have a ton of pictures from other hunts this year but haven't posted because of half the stupid comments that come out. I wasn't going to post these pics but was pretty excited so I wanted to share, may refrain from doing that anymore.... Thanks for the guys that complemented and didn't question!

I'm short and heavy set... I at least get out of my truck and walk 10 miles a day when I'm hunting... I do my best... I don't road hunt!!

I stripped the rifle down to the action, had a Bench Mark 27" barrell and recoil lug made and matched up to the action. Then I put a HS precision stock, timney trigger, Badger clip kit, and a leupold Mark 4 4.5-14 x50 scope. The gun is scary accurate if the guy behind the trigger can stay calm!!

I knew there was a good explanation. So many special hunts in this state (not a bad thing) at different times most weapons are open at any given moment in any given unit.

Nothing like a big mature blacktail buck in the snow, thats one to remember.
