Post by: Rawr0192 on November 26, 2010, 06:43:40 PM
if their is a large group of coyotes and you take a shot at one. lets say its a clean one shot kill. would the group come after you or run away from you?
please dont rant about this. i have never hunted coyotes before it was just a question that came to mind. :IBCOOL: :bfg:

they will run away! yotes are not into attacking people. like there bigger brothers :bash: if they run towards you, then they did not know where the shot came from.

i know this is the most childish way to say this possible but if they ran towards you. would they be so scared and keep running or would they eat you?

Also, you would more than likely not see them in large groups.  If anything you may see a pair, but I have never seen more than that.

saw 5 of em grouped up this last weekend.  saw one at first, it ignored distress calls, i gave em a howl and the other 4 came out of nowhere, just kinda appeared.  they are sneeky critters

It's not real common but at least once a year I call in a group of 3-6. And no they won't attack you. They'll run at light speed away from you.

So have I. Not while hunting though. Heck, I wish one would charge me while I was hunting. Once the rifle comes out they go into super stealth mode and I never see 'em.

I don't know what he had in mind, but it scared the pee out of me.  I was quail hunting without a dog when I was 16.  I came through a draw and all of a sudden a coyote jumps up about 5 yards from me.  I had my dads browning A5 and some cheap #8 low base shot.  I pulled up and shot it while it was quartering away at about 15 yards.  It spun t around and he was facing directly at me.  I hadn't flipped the little switch on the A5 that helps it eject less powerful loads so it stovepiped the empty shell.  He ran right at me, I got the shell out and shot him at 3 yards in the face and chest.  He is still the heaviest coyote I have shot at 46 pounds.

So let me ask you this. Your answer to this young man, the OP, is "yes, they will attack you?"

If they do run towards you it just gives you the chance to bust another one  ;) my buddy and I were south of town and walked over a hill and there were 5 in a group, were smoked one and walked up to where they were to see if they had a kill but nothing.

:)well I think they have discriminating taste, they'ed attack runamuck before me, fer instance. O'course if they was starving it might be different. Many new callers have disappeared so I reccomend that you newbies all quit! before ya get ate. :chuckle:
